:ar: The team placed F Chad LaRose on injured reserve on Friday and brought G Justin Peters up from Albany (AHL). F Zach Boychuk was also called up from Albany. G Cam Ward missed Friday's game against Buffalo after being sent home for treatment on an upper-body injury. - The Canadian Press

The team placed D Mike Commodore on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to January 30, and activated D Marc Methot from injured reserve. - The Sports Network

F Mike Modano (knee) did not skate in an optional practice Friday. He will test the knee at Saturday's morning skate to see if he can play against the Coyotes. F Mike Ribeiro, who has been out with a throat injury since Jan. 6, skated hard Friday and could be ready to return Tuesday in Chicago. - Dallas Morning News

D Niklas Kronwall (knee) will miss a second straight game Saturday in Los Angeles but said he hopes to resume skating Monday and be ready for Tuesday's game at St. Louis. - Detroit News

Immediately after acquiring Ole-Kristian Tollefsen in a trade for Ville Leino, the team put him on waivers on Saturday. - TSN

G Devan Dubnyk has been sent to Springfield (AHL), while G Bryan Pitton has been recalled from Stockton (ECHL). In order for Dubnyk to be able to play in the AHL during the Olympic break, he needs to play more games down in Springfield, which was the reason the Oilers sent him down. - Edmonton Sun

G Anton Khudobin is to make his first NHL start Saturday when Minnesota plays host to the Flyers. He made his NHL debut after Josh Harding was injured in Thursday's win over Edmonton. Starter Niklas Backstrom, on injured reserve, has battled back issues and an illness the past two weeks. It will be at least another couple of days before he's back into game shape. - Star Tribune

The team recalled Ryan White, David Desharnais and Brock Trotter from Hamilton (AHL) on Friday. D Marc-Andre Bergeron will not play in either of this weekend's games. Trotter will make his NHL debut on Saturday against Pittsburgh. Montreal's fourth line has a combined total of 15 games of NHL experience. All 4 of Saturday's lines has at least one player who started the season in Hamilton. - TSN

C Josh Bailey is expected to miss two weeks with an upper body injury. The Islanders assigned D Brendan Witt to Bridgeport (AHL) after he cleared waivers. - New York Post

According to head coach Cory Clouston, rookie D Erik Karlsson suffered a shoulder injury and is doubtful to play before the Olympic break. D Alex Picard will take his spot on the blue line. - TSN

G Ray Emery will miss Saturday's game against Minnesota due to tightness in his left hip. Head coach Paul Holmgren announced that Michael Leighton will start. D Danny Syvret (left shoulder separation) and Ryan Parent (back surgery) are expected to be back in the lineup after the Olympic break. Syvret was cleared for contact and worked out fully in drills with the team on Friday. - Team Release / Philadelphia Inquirer

RW Tyler Kennedy practiced Friday as the center on a line with LW Matt Cooke and RW Chris Kunitz, who head coach Dan Bylsma said may play Saturday at Montreal. Forwards Mark Letestu and Tim Wallace were recalled from the AHL late Friday. They were expected to join the Penguins in Montreal. - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

D Marc-Edouard Vlasic (lower body), C Manny Malhotra (lower body) and D Dan Boyle (upper body) are questionable for Saturday's game in Nashville. - Mercury News

Roberto Luongo, who sat in favour of Andrew Raycroft on Thursday in Ottawa, is scheduled to play Saturday's matinee against the Bruins. The Canucks do not play again after that until Tuesday in Tampa. - Vancouver Sun

F Nicklas Backstrom missed the third period on Friday with an illness. According to head coach Bruce Boudreau, he's expected to suit up Sunday against Pittsburgh. The Capitals have recalled goalie Michal Neuvirth from Hershey (AHL). G Braden Holtby was assigned to Hershey to make room for Neuvirth. - Washington Post
