Would you trade Scott Niedermayer before the trade deadline?

I'm going with Yes. I can't see this team going very far in the playoffs and I think we should get something in return for someone that isn't sure if they are back next year. If he wants to be back next year, he could do a Tkachuk and come back after his stint with another team. Unlikely, but possible. The return for Niedermayer would be at least a 1st round pick and a roster player. Who's to say that we can't make the playoffs without him? Or more importantly, who's to say we will make the playoffs with him?

No I wouldn't, unless he wants the hell out of Dodge.

We are struggling on defense. Giving up our very best blueliner when we are still in the hunt for a playoff spot makes no sense.

We're struggling on defence at the moment, but the possibility of an even worse defence next year with no Niedermayer (if he were to retire) and no return that a trade would bring is quite scary.

Yes, I'd trade him. I'm looking past this season when we won't have him on the team.

Trading Scott Niedermayer doesn't insure us of having a better defense next year.

It would insure us of not making the playoffs, however.

That would be a big no from me.

It would if he retires and we get some good D-men back in the deal.

No one knows that for sure. We made the playoffs last year when we supposedly were rebuilding with a bunch of trades.

Why would a team give up some "good" D-men to trade for a D-man?

Isn't that counter-intuitive?

Bob Murray wasn't rebuilding. He was trying to make the playoffs.

Which is what I see this year.

But I do see your point. Try to salvage something out of him before he's scrapped.

Sorry, must have got carried away I meant D-man not D-men.

Rebuilding probably is too strong a word in retrospect, but we traded Pahlsson and Moen because weren't goi

My vote is no unless Scotty specifically ask for a trade.
This season will be what it will be and the future will take care of itself.

It may not insure us but I believe that it's very possible that it's the next step forward. Considering the cap space that Niedermayer's taking up as well as the uncertainly of whether or not he should retire is also factored in. The cap space that's freed up can be used to replace parts of Niedermayer's roles. We have to replace a guy like Niedermayer 1 for 1. I think it's better if we do it through committee.

I say NO. He is our Captain, I want to see him and ducks.gif in PO run! I want to see us buyers, not sellers. I want to see belief and hope not waving goodbye to the season! ranting.gif

No. An elite team would find a way to keep him or let him retire with dignity. Of course, we're not an elite team and we're seeing the team being dismantled for old spare parts.

Yes. He has had a horrid season, so I won't feel particularly bad. I feel worse trading Giguere than Scott Neidermayer.

I voted yes but with an asterisk. They should only trade him if he agrees to be traded. If he wants to stay, so be it.

If we were still 10 pts out of a playoff spot I would say yes. Seeing the log jam from 6th - 12th and only being 3 pts out I say no way. Gotta try for the playoffs.

Yeah, I wish we could've kept Rooch since he was on the team for so long, but you can't have everything.

Imagine this scenario - Bob trades Scott at the deadline and tells him "we'll absolutely sign you to a generous contract over the summer if you want to return for one last season - and we'll give you a no-trade clause." That would give Scott a chance to make a real run at the Cup this season, would help the Ducks for the future and would allow Scott to retire in Anaheim. Would it be that bad for Scott to go play for another team for two or three months?
