QUOTE
The American women feel a sense of history every time they walk into the locker room. They have a photo of the 1998 gold-medal team displayed, along with a photo of the 1980 men's Miracle on Ice team. "We look up at them every day. We know how hard it is to even get to play in a gold-medal game," said Ruggiero.

Even harder? Playing in front of the partisan crowd in Hockey Place. Ruggiero anticipates her team's gold-medal game will feel like Sunday's pro-Canada crowd in the U.S. men's upset.

"Hostile. Chanting against you. That's OK, because our team thrives on that. And I love silencing the crowds," she said. "We don't have the weight of a nation like Canada does in these games."

Finland take bronze with overtime strike

Karoliina Rantamaki scored two minutes into overtime to lift Finland to a 3-2 win over Sweden in the Olympic women’s ice hockey bronze medal game on Thursday.

Rantamaki gave the Finns their second women’s hockey bronze when her centring pass ricocheted off a skate in a crowd in front of the Swedish net past Sara Grahn.

The women's and men's bracket are going to be almost indentical:

FIN with the bronze

USA v. CAN for the gold,

and I think CAN wins twice. Althought that's not what I'm cheering for!

Why, oh why, is NBC showing the Womens' Olympic Gold Medal Game on MSNBC, and semi-final curling on CNBC? As far as I'm aware, everywhere CNBC is available, it is shown in HD, but MSNBC is not... as in my region. It is in standard definition only.

Why not insure that hockey, which is played at an incomparable pace with a vastly smaller object of play, is shown in high def, as opposed to curling. Regardless of which game you prefer, doesn't common sense tell you that hockey should be broadcast in HD, over curling???

emoayangry.gif

(and don't tell me curling has a bigger demographic than hockey, regardless of which gender is playing... could it? hmm.gif )

This continued conflict between curling and hockey is too much of an irony for me to look past. The NBC-preferred curling is played with rocks, just like their logic is.

USA have a 5 on 3 powerplay... been quite a few powerplays so far.

Canada very lucky there as the puck slides just past the goal, penalty killed.

Edited to say

Huzzah, Canada scores at 13.55 happydance.gif

1-0

The IOC will investigate the behavior of Canadian women’s hockey players who celebrated their gold medal by swigging beer and champagne on the ice.

Players came back onto the ice more than half an hour after the 2-0 victory over the United States. Still in their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, they swigged from bottles of champagne and cans of beer and smoked cigars.

Wow, there's a time and place for all that and it's not on the ice. Those women apparently know zilch about class and sportmanship.
