I'm surprised he picked the Ducks, considering he's got offensive talent.

Jake is listed on the Ducks Roster... not as "in the system" on the Ducks Website. Could this be a sign that they might give him a shot in th big club?

Maybe it'd be a good idea to merge this topic with the info on the Duck Eggs forum...

DK is only pointing out that there is a place for certain topics and that there is no need to have more than one thread discusing the same thing...keeps things organized and easier to look through..

I like to see SIGNED: threads in here too. This is like the foyer of a house, if someone new walks in, you say wasup.

Seems very mature for 21, could be a nice addition to the other young Defensemen we have entering the league.

Just doing my part to reinforce the fact that Carlyle hates offense.

Contrary to what his backers try to force us to believe.

Yep, Carlyle's the reason Getzlaf only scored 91 points last year. LOL.

I love how everyone talks about this, but Andy Mac, Ebbett, and Kunitz have all either failed to surpass their production in Anaheim or been even worse. Morrison also falls into this category, except when he was playing with Ovechkin.

For all the times people bring up Carlyle as holding players back offensively, there really isn't much evidence to support that claim.

Heh, yeah. But that kind of thing happens to a lot of teams, I think. At least, based on what I see around the NHL. Announcers bring it up a lot. There just seems to be something about playing your old team. Players get up for it.

From what I remember, he played some of his hockey at Riverside and Ontario. He ended up playing a season or two for the Texas Tornado in the NAHL; a couple for the Lincoln Stars in the USHL. He was recruited to play for the University of Alaska, Anchorage under an athletic scholarship but a change of coach changed everything. I lost track after that, but according to the press release, he played with Northeastern last.

Unfortunately I don't know what kind of game he plays now, so we'll have to wait until he either plays a game or is assigned.

Ok so this Newton deal is starting to be confusing. He is now assigned a number... 58, does that mean the Ducks are thinking about using him? Can they use him? If they cant then why is he getting paid? Why is he here and not in the ECHL or AHL?

And does that mean he gets to practice with the team?

My understanding of the trade deadline is that Newton is not eligible to play for the Ducks this season. As I understand it, when the trade deadline passes any players signed to the team can only join the team the next season.

Also, consider that they signed Newton to a 3-year contract. Does it make sense to do that so late in the season if this season counted as one of the seasons? That would be a huge waste of a year.
