Just pick a day where the ice would last outside in SoCal.

REPORT: PENGUINS LOOKING TO HOST CAPS AT 2011 WINTER CLASSIC
This just in: The NHL will fold all remaining 28 teams so that Washington and Pittsburgh will be the only two teams in the league. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman added "wait, there are other teams in the league?"
Bettman continues: "We think that playing Washington and Pittsburgh 82 games will be good for the league and its new TV home, i.e. any channel more obscure than Versus. We think we can do this for at least another 15 years until Crosby and Ovechkin retire. By then I'll be too old to even care."

More or likly that is what its gonna be. Caps will probally host it thought. I say the Pens should wait a couple of years seeing as they were one of the 1st teams in the Winter Classic. LET SOMEONE ELSE DO IT!!!

I think it would be neat if the NHL did a "winter weekend" and had the three california teams play the three NYC area teams in consecutive nights at Yankee Stadium. Cheesy Gimmick? You bet, but I would pay top dollar to see my Ducks play at my beloved Yankee Stadium, that'd be a total sportsgasm for me.
The Avs are about as western as an NHL classic can get, so I don't ever hold out hope of the Ducks playing in one and unless they invent ice that doesn't melt California sure as hell won't host one.

So any NYC proposal would either have to happen at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows on Long Island (where the Mets play) or down across the river in the new concrete fortress of the New Medowlands Stadium (Giants/Jets) in East Rutherford, NJ.
Yeah and unless they really improve the technology or hold the games far outside the actual NHL cities, the only West teams with a proper facility to get to host would be Colorado (Invesco Field - NFL Broncos or Coors Field- MLB Rockies), Calgary (McMahon Stadium - CFL Stampeders), Edmonton (Commonwealth Stadium - CFL Eskimos, held the Heritage Classic), Minnesota (Target Field - MLB Twins or TCF Stadium - University of Minnesota football), Chicago (Wrigley Field - MLB Cubs done, US Celluar Field - MLB White Sox, Soldier Field - NFL Bears), Detroit (Comerica Field - MLB Tigers or they could go out to Ann Abor for the Big House - University of Michigan football), Columbus (Horseshoe - Ohio State football), and maybe they could try St. Louis (Busch Stadium - MLB Cardinals).

There were some knowing glances in the room when Bettman was saying that the warm Southern California temperatures might result in ice “that isn’t up to NHL standards.” How often has the Ducks’ ice been up to that standard? For that matter, most of the Olympic hockey in Vancouver was played on questionable ice simply because of the volume of play.

Or both teams, one home and one away.

Screw the Pens. Just because the NHL brass gets all worked up over them not everyone does. I'm sick and tired of seeing them every other game I watch on Versus. It is absolutely disgusting.
