He isn't AHL eligible. He either plays for the ducks or his junior team. And if we send him down to his junior team we can't later recall him (like w/ Sbisa this year)

it doesn't kick in til he plays pro hockey, its probably a reward for the season he had, and avoids any possible issues of him not signing next year, in which case he'd re-enter the draft

“I know I have the skill to play at this level,” Holland says. “It’s just a matter of doing it. As a first-round pick, I’m going in with a little bit of pressure put on myself to do well. You just go in and roll the dice a little bit and hope it turns out well.”
“The workouts have felt pretty good and the week is shaping up,” Holland says. “It’s fun because we all come together and get to know each other as guys, not just as competitors out there. This is hard work, but we try to make the most of it and have as much fun as we can.”

Some take it to mean there is something wrong with Holland that he hasn't been called up, but I don't think that's the case. Despite what some think, I'm not sure the coaches/scouts/GM really NEED to see a player in the NHL to assess their abilities. Yeah, maybe the last couple of games of the season is a nice perk for the players, but their value is probably pretty well known to the team without it. So, if you have enough Centers, (in this case), just calling up another for fun probably isn't a priority.

Only 4 games this season. Be nice to see him play in 8 more. Lots of guys get called up without need - in your scenario an injury. It's not like it would be tragic to sit Pelley or Bonino or even Koivu at this point. Maybe they don't want to break up the Ryan-Bonino-Palmieri juggernaut, for the playoff push.....
I guess they will just evaluate him at camp and in the preseason. Or they have already decided they don't need to see him to know what he's got.
Maybe the plan all along is to bring back Selanne and Koivu, put Palmieri on their line, put Bobby back up with the twins, and improve the bottom six through trades with Edmonton and waiver-wire guys......
There's just no room, I guess. Too many unremarkable guys on 1-way contracts.
