6-1 Detroit. Phoenix is the only higher seed in the West to lose to the lower seed. Detroit's experience and poise buried Phoenix which didn't have much more than Bryzgalov tonight.

Honestly, I didn't think Phoenix could take eliminate SJS in the 2nd round, but I think Detroit can.

I guess I'm a Canucks fan now that the Coyotes and Sabres are done. I always liked them anyway. I always say the the Sharks and the Wings are my third and fourth favorite teams, I've grown apart from them in recent years. Of course I also say that the Kings are my second favorite team, mostly for location purposes.

Anyway, go Canucks, and go Pittsburgh (as long as Danny Bylsma is still there).

TSN's Ice Chips

Centre Marc Savard (concussion) was officially cleared medically on Monday and will be ready for Game One of the Eastern Conference Semi-finals. - TSN

The team held a full skate on Tuesday morning prior to Game 7 against the Coyotes. Brian Rafalski sat out and head coach Mike Babcock called it a maintenance day. Babcock added that everybody was ready. - TSN

Left winger Simon Gagne is healing nicely from a broken toe and could resume skating as early as Friday, general manager Paul Holmgren said on Monday. Gagne broke his toe blocking a shot with his right skate against New Jersey a week ago, and the original prognosis was that he would be sidelined for three weeks. He could return for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Right winger Ian Laperriere is likely out for the remainder of the season, general manager Paul Holmgren announced Tuesday. According to doctors, Laperriere suffered a contusion of the brain and mild concussion when he was hit with a slap shot above his right eye in the third period of the Flyers' 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils in Game 5. He needed 60 to 70 stitches to close the cut. - philadelphiaflyers.com

Captain Shane Doan will not play tonight. He had treatment on Tuesday morning but did not skate or speak to the media.
The team held and optional skate prior to Game 7 against the Red Wings. The following players took part - Lombardi (short 10 min. skate), Nokelainen, Vandermeer, Bryzgalov, Schneider and LaBarbera - TSN

The team held a skate that lasted about 50 minutes. Everyone took part except for Chris Kunitz, Tyler Kennedy and Jordan Leopold. Kunitz seems to just be "resting," and is day-to-day. - TSN

Ryan Johnson skated on his own Tuesday morning (broken foot). Alain Vigneault says he is day-to-day. Aaron Rome (ankle) has been skating on his own past couple of days and is also day-to-day for Game 1. - TSN

Goaltender Cory Schneider has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. Schneider, 24, played in 60 games for the Moose this season, posting a 35-23-2 record. He registered four shutouts and recorded a .919 save percentage. In two games with Vancouver this season, he recorded a .915 save percentage. - Media Release

Tom Poti was hit in the eye by a puck in Game 6 against Montreal and will not play in Game 7 on Wednesday. He will undergoing surgery for a broken orbital bone and is out indefinitely. Karl Alzner has been recalled from Hershey of the American Hockey League. - TSN

Ah well. The Wings were just too much for the Yotes. But what an amazing turnaround from the Coyote franchise. And Dave Tippett was nominated for the Jack Adams trophy too.

Year after year, the Wings show they are just a great organization. They have the best GM (and great scouts) and the best coach in the NHL. I'm jealous.
