No particular Red Wings hatred to go on here - although I will scream until my lungs burst if we see yet another Detroit VS Pittsburgh Finals series - I just want to see the Sharks do well for a change. Mainly to do with the fact that I'm seeing them in Sweden later this year

Marc Savard remained on the ice Wednesday for extra practice. The veteran center, who has been cleared by doctors to play in the second round of the playoffs, is working on his conditioning after missing nearly two months with a Grade 2 concussion. - Boston Globe

Bumped back to defence to help soften the blow of Brian Campbell's absence to injury, Dustin Byfuglien apparently will return to a line with John Madden and Troy Brouwer. - Chicago Tribune

LW Simon Gagne is healing nicely from a broken toe and could resume skating as early as Friday, general manager Paul Holmgren said on Monday. Gagne broke his toe blocking a shot with his right skate against New Jersey a week ago, and the original prognosis was that he would be sidelined for three weeks. He could return for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Michael Leighton has experienced soreness in rehabbing his left high ankle sprain. He has not skated in the last two practices after participating in consecutive practices on Saturday and Monday. General manager Paul Holmgren said it was "probably a long shot" to have Leighton act as Brian Boucher’s backup this round. - Philadelphia Inquirer

Chris Kunitz and Tyler Kennedy returned to practice on Thursday, and Jordan Leopold continues to skate with a non-contact jersey. Kunitz and Kennedy are day-to-day, while there is no timetable for Leopold. - TSN

According to assistant coach Trent Yawney, Patrick Marleau sat out of Game 1 Thursday evening because of a fever. - TSN

Forwards Dany Heatley and Jed Ortmeyer and defenceman Niclas Wallin were given days off as they nurse injuries that sidelined them for part of the opening round. Head Coach Todd McLellan said he hopes to have all three back in the lineup when the second round begins Thursday. - San Jose Mercury News

Ryan Johnson skated on his own again this morning and says he will be ready to play early in this series. Aaron Rome practiced also today and hopes to be ready for Game 1. With the Blackhawks moving Dustin Byfuglien back to forward, the Canucks may try to use Andrew Alberts' size on the penalty kill...Robeto Luongo didn't practice; he worked out instead, then went on the ice with Ian Clarke afterwards. Cory Schneider practiced, while Mikael Samuelsson left practice early to receive treatment. Head coach Alain Vigneault says he's fine. - TSN
