With the season-ending wrist injury to center David Krejci and the 'very doubtful' status of defenceman Adam McQuaid, head coach Claude Julien said Thursday there was no reason to rush defenceman Mark Stuart, who was hoping to gain medical clearance to play in Game 4 on Friday. Stuart was one of eight players who skated Thursday at the Wachovia Center. - Boston Globe

Forward Troy Brouwer admitted Wednesday his concerns for his father have partially affected his play. He was a healthy scratch for Game 3 against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. Brouwer missed the last four games of the regular season tending to his father, who suffered a blood clot in his brain. - Chicago Sun-Times

The following players participated in Friday's optional skate: Sergei Kostitsyn, Mathieu Darche, Jaroslav Spacek, Tomas Plekanec and Ben Maxwell. - TSN

Andrei Markov was on the team's charter to Pittsburgh on Friday. Earlier in the day, head coach Jacques Martin said there was no news on Markov's condition but it's believed that he's not ready to play. Sergei Kostitsyn was not on the flight. - Montreal Gazette

Simon Gagne (broken toe) will be a game-time decision for Game 4. He will see how he feels after the warm-up and a decision will be made by himself and the trainer. He had targeted Game 5 for his original return but said he was feeling a lot better after Game 3. Vancouver has just fallen completely apart, especially Bob Luongo. Have the many games (including Olympics) caught up with him at the worst possible time?
