Prospects from the Oilers, Flames, Ducks, Sharks and Canucks are all going to play a tournament in Penticton in mid-September.

HA! I love it. I think the Oilers fans are savvy, and bitter, enough to know which players those are all on their own.

The prospect tourney and the Canucks' main camp, which begins Sept. 18, will be held at the South Okanagan Events Centre, a 5,000-seat facility that opened in October of 2008. It is home to the B.C. Hockey League's Penticton Vees.

Besides Canucks prospects such as Jordan Schroeder, fans will get a chance to see the Oilers' No. 1 overall pick this June, either Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin, plus CHL player-of-the-year Jordan Eberle; Ducks' 2009 first-rounder Peter Holland, a power forward with the Guelph Storm; American defenceman Tim Erixon of the Flames; and maybe Patrick White with the Sharks, the bust-of-a-pick the Canucks took in the first round in 2007 and used to pry Christian Ehrhoff from San Jose.

The Ducks ended up with the following prospects as a result of the Dustin Penner offer sheet:

2008 Entry Draft:
17 - Jake Gardiner (defenseman)
35 - Nicholas Deschamps (center)
39 - Eric O'Dell (center)
43 - Justin Schultz (defenseman)

O'Dell is already gone thanks to the horrific trade that brought crap Erik Christensen to Anaheim. I hope that the Ducks send Gardiner, Deschamps and Schultz to this camp to show the Oilers what they missed out on and that all three have great tournaments.

just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the kings are doing a prospect tournament this year against a different set of teams? just wondering why they aren't a part of this one.

A few things I noticed:

- Ducks are taking a lot fewer players than some teams. Ducks roster has 25 players, while I think I saw one team with a roster of 34!
- Deschamps is listed as a LW instead of Center. (At least I think that's a change).
- Brittain is listed as a RW instead of LW. (Again, based on my past notes).
- No Bobkov on the roster!! (Could be that his transfer from KHL isn't final yet?)

I think, in general, the Ducks took the "Rookie" thing seriously, and left off guys like DeGray, Hillier, Sharp, Bickel, Regan, Levasseur.

Hmmmm.....How wide is an NHL rink? 3 X 6'4" = 19 feet. Should cover MOST of the blue line, and make for a much more difficult zone entry.

Ok....NHL rink is 85 feet across, and my idea sucks. Way too much room to get around the pylons.

Not a lot of room to sign a prospect D-man, however. Currently we have 48 contracts, and at least 7 D already in the minors:
Bickel
Clark
Degray
Mitera
Newton
Regan
- And one of Syvret/Mikkelson/Festerling.

(Assuming the 7 in Anaheim are Vis/Sutton/Lydman/Sbisa/Brookbank/and two of Mik/Fes/Syv. Gets even more crowded if Fowler makes the big team.)

We are prospect heavy on D.....But NHL-ready poor.

Don't know how easy it will be to access from the States...But worth a shot, I guess!

I don't think the NCAA allows players to attend professional team training camps.

The development/conditioning camps in the summer are different, however. Why? Don't know....

Here's the only reference I have:

....the NCAA must get rid of the rule that prevents kids from taking part in training camps.

Any drafted player should have the right to participate in NHL training camp -- at least on weekends, when they don't have to worry about attending classes. Giving NHL teams the ability to invite college players to camp would at least give them another vehicle to evaluate these players, even if they aren't going to be allowed to sign them.

Apparently it's an academic issue as much as anything else. The Colleges are, or will be, in session during NHL training camps.

Actually a pretty good article on the strained relationship between the NCAA and NHL, and how the writer thinks it could be fixed. Some talk about Palmieri, and his late signing this year.
