Toni Lydman? OK. He's a helluva lot better than anyone else the Ducks currently have on defense.

Hopefully this is the second of the 2 d-men we are getting this offseason. He's a good acquisition as a solid #3 or #4. No frills, reliable player. But this better not be our marquee signing.

Very excited about this signing. He's very good defensively and the price tag is very, very good. Hopefully we can still sign another guy, like a Volchenkov, Hamhuis or Kubina, and if so our defense will look a hell of a lot better.

At least people can't blame Bob for not doing anything.

Decent player. Can't comment too much on him, he was a good piece in a defense that didn't look amazing on paper but worked very well in Buffalo. That's pretty much what we need to try to emulate.

He's a solid stay at home D-Man... Plus 10 last year (I believe). Also a member of Finland's Olympic team. Perhaps bait for the other Fins?

Maybe RC can shape him up...

As long as he's a defensive defenseman for the second pairing, I'm happy..

Cheaper and more productive than Beauchemin, this coming from a Beauchemin fan.

Lydman is literally the best (edit: defensive) defenseman the Ducks have right now. At least one hole on defense has been filled in:

#1 - Visnovsky/???
#2 - Lydman/Wisniewski (RFA)
#3 - Eminger/Brookbank
Scratch - Festerling/Mikkelson

That looks a LOT better than it did just five minutes ago.

He's a minutes-eating d-man who can contribute a tiny bit offensively. Typical #4 man. I would have preferred Tallinder between the two ex-Sabres, but this isn't bad.

I'm not a huge Lydman fan, but there are two very good things about this signing. First, at only $3 million a season, the Ducks still have plenty of cap room to sign Bobby, other free agents, and any potential trades. Second, at three years, at about the time it expires, some of are young dman should really be coming into their own and taking over this team.

Rather have a decent defensive defenseman than a tough pylon.

the ducks want to field the most non physical defense in hockey

this is where I miss Burke, he'd NEVER allow this

As has been pointed out, it's not like Detroit has had a physical defense in recent years and they did just fine.

Maybe Lydman can call up Tallinder and talk him into joining him. hmm.gif
