QUOTE
On the first day of free agency, the Ducks filled a big hole Thursday by signing defenseman Toni Lydman to a three-year, $9 million contract and re-signing center Saku Koivu for two years and $5 million.
Lydman played four seasons for Calgary and the past five for Buffalo, accumulating 33 goals and 165 assists. The Ducks had a need at the position because Scott Niedermayer retired and Chris Pronger and Francois Beauchemin also departed in the past two years.
