Yeah its a good signing for the Ducks because we keep him for cheap but a 2 way deal and only for a year?

Ehh it was for a good price and he is decent on the blue line so I think its a good sign for another year

Mikkelson is a transition guy between now and the time that Mitera, Gardiner, Fowler and Sbisa are ready for the NHL. In that sense it's a good move.

Yes. Another cheap deal. Murray is like I am when I go shopping with my wife. She asks me if I like something and I look at the price tag before I answer.

Would have liked to see a longer deal and on a 1 way contract. 2 way just seems too unstable and almost sounds like he would start in the AHL and be brought up from there. Who knows, hes staying which is good and hopefully we will get to see alot of him.

The OC Register article stated that he would not have to clear waivers if sent down, but I thought he was waiver eligible this year?

If it were for more than one year, it would cost more.
I also think his waiver eligibility factors into this. I could have sworn he would have to go through waivers this year, but if it's true that he doesn't then this contract will almost certainly finish it off. The team, and Mikkelson, would want a different contract for him when his eligibility ends since there would be no use for a two-way contract.
If Anaheim decides they don't want to retain his services after this year, then they won't be stuck with a contract, and if they decide they do want to retain him they'll put together a new contract.
One way or another, he's going to be an NHL player. If it isn't in Anaheim, it will be somewhere else.

It was a smart move by Mr.Murray and and we'll see if hes good enough for the Ducks to sign him again, if not, then there goes another D man which by next year, the D should hopefully be re-stocked for the future and we wont have the predicament there going through this year

I think the OCR is wrong.
The table on page 66 of the CBA, (for those following along at home), says to be waiver exempt, a 23 year old needs to have played fewer than 60 NHL games. According to TSN, Mik played 34 games in 08-09, and 28 in 09-10, for a total of 62 games.
(Of course, it wouldn't be the first time if I'm reading the CBA wrong).

I guess we'll need to wait and see if there are any corrections on that. It wouldn't be the first time OCR screwed up on something like that. They might even think the two-way contract is what allows him to go through waivers, since that's a pretty common misconception.

He might have ultimately accepted their qualifying offer, but that doesn't mean he didn't try to negotiate for more. The key to analyzing this deal is what he is getting on the AHL end. If it's only the minimum or close to it, I agree, not a vote of confidence. It might have been his choice however, to accept the qualifying offer rather than a 2 year two-way deal with more at the AHL level; could be a quicker route to UFA for him by accepting a one year deal, similar to what Salcido did. Ducks could have given him a two-year deal with second a one-way if they felt he had full-time NHL potential by next year. If I was Mikk's agent, that's what I would have pushed for, otherwise only a one year deal at the qualifying offer.
