“South of the border, in such stops as Nashville, Atlanta, Miami and Anaheim, people may barely notice hockey is gone.”
With that attitude from north of the border is it any wonder why hockey is melting in the Sunbelt.
Would anyone pay a couple of bucks to watch a California 4on4 exhibition serious if it barnstormed through California and Phoenix once a month until the labor situation was worked out?

If they played some exhibition games up here in Seattle/Portland, they'd sure sell a lot of tickets!
TSN's comments should usually be taken with a grain of salt, Canada is very possessive of "Their" game, and most can't imagine Americans loving it as much as they do, especially where the sun shines! Maybe they are just jealous of the warm weather...

Saw the quote, it bothered me for about half second.
You have to admit, besides the furvor of the folks on this board and a select few in OC, hockey in Anaheim will not be that missed. It's sad, and I have come to grips with it.
It just makes me chear even louder at games.

Well, I take a different approach. It's hard to be mad at someone for reporting the facts. Other than this message board, I'm having a hard time finding anyone in SoCal who knows about the lockout. Last weekend, I found one girl working in a sports shop and one waitress who were aware of the lockout. Talking about it with people at Angels games, at work, etc., none of them were even aware of the lockout. A few of them added the normal snide remarks about hockey -- all very negative.
Honestly, in SoCal, other than the few of us who are die-hard hockey fans, I feel like nobody cares. I don't see articles in the paper about how it's going to affect the economy -- because it won't, other than maybe JT Schmidt's. Look at the Edmonton paper, and businesses are very concerned about how this will affect them, affect the city, affect the city morale. It's not like that here.
The comment that people will barely notice hockey is gone? Most of the people I know around here won't notice... at all.

It is difficult to argue the point when in most cases it is true...however we as a contingent could write a letter back to TSN and show our support of hockey and how it will be missed...just to show them that they are not totally correct about SoCal hockey.

The biggest problem we have here in Southern California is the lack of a good public transit system and over crowded roads.
We are so spread out here and it's a long and hard drive to go see the games. To live close enough to make a trip to the games, well, for some of us it's cost prohibitive.
The fans are here....we just need an easier way to get to the Pond.

I think it was a little harsh. Ok the States might not have a huugeee ass passion for hockey like Canadians do but come on saying they won't miss it I think that was too much

I dont know...it is true though
Many so called fans (blues fans at that) around here dont know anything about the CBA...
I was discussing the pending lockout with an instructor who is from Detroit (and a wings fan) and this dude who had on a Blues shirt wanted to know what we were talking about...
I just looked at him while my prof tried not to laugh at him...
it is sad...i agree...but i think if there was a bit more marketing involved in the states you would see an upserge...people forget hockey is a sport and that there are teams close by...ADVERTISE and they will come... and not just on sports channels...
ok...im done...
