I THINK McCue was the guy who started out a Defenseman, but was converted to Forward. I think the plan was to make him into more of an "enforcer" type. Spent most of the season with the Manitoba Moose(?) last year. He was undrafted.

The guy we're getting back appears to be playing in Finland, and was drafted in 2006.

Might simply be a salary dump. We give away a contracted player (albeit an AHL player), for a guy we don't have to pay anything, and may never come to the states??

Added: May have spoken too soon. Zaborsky is listed in HF with a rating of 7.0D. The 7.0 says he has potential....the D means he isn't getting there very fast.

And, yeah, the Rangers press release calls McCue a defenseman. HF has him as a LW.

You guys will be glad to know that this is a huge trade. This guy was eating cap space and was just horrible. Ill give him a few issues with concussion but man oh man he was a liability on the ice. Constantly turned the puck over mediocre fighter and just overall the only thing he had going was his size. Then again mitera is only a small upgrade from this.

Here's the HF assessment on Zaborsky:

QUOTE
Talent Analysis
A natural scorer, Zaborsky has excellent hands, wonderful on-ice vision and good hockey sense.

Future

Zaborsky has the ability to become a second line winger in the NHL. He will need to continue to develop consistent play as well as physicality to achieve this goal.

Profile Last Updated: September, 11th 2009

Link

Slovakian native....5'11", 180 pounds by this update.

TSN says 6'1", 188 pounds. No NHL experience, and only 10 games in the AHL. One season in ECHL, 47 games, 28 points.

Seems like a decent guy to take a chance on(?) I guess we'll see....

I have never heard Mitera called a liability on the ice, or someone who constantly turns over the puck. Ever.

I read the last sentence. I don't think he called Mitera a liability.

He called McCue basically a pretty huge liability ("man oh man he was a liability") and said Mitera was just a small upgrade. I don't think there's many other ways to take this... smile.gif

Honestly Mitera was sloppy last season and didn't show any type of real skill. Eric Regan was amazing last year had a much better year than mark. Even by the numbers this is true. I'm sorry, but I don't see Mitera ever playing with the ducks full time.

The Ducks have him listed as a defensemen as well

Depends on where you look. The story on the Ducks website says this:

QUOTE
The Ducks have acquired left wing Tomas Zaborsky from the New York Rangers in exchange for left wing Matt McCue.

You can pretty much take your pick! (At least everyone agrees that he isn't a goaltender). biggrin.gif

Not that anyone should care at this point.....But I had McCue's transition from D to F backwards, according to Hoornstra:

QUOTE
The Ducks signed McCue as a free-agent forward out of the Western Hockey League and attempted to convert him to the blue line as a professional.

(But, at least, he's still not a goaltender! smile.gif)

Record Keeping Error:

Zaborsky is on the last year of his ELC, and not unsigned as I somehow assumed.

However, it may be that he'll continue to play in Finland. Who knows.
