I'm assuming depth/veteran for Syracuse. According to some Flyers fans on HFboards, he could be a good choice for an puck moving dman injury call up.

I think you're right.
And he was also the "Norris Trophy" winner for the OHL that year, too, IIRC.
Maybe this acquisition is an attempt to see if Randy Carlyle can do anything with his game, IDK. Panning for gold in the Santa Ana river?
Seems to me we already have that covered.
Who knows... all we know is that he's not the answer for our most crucial needs on D. At least I hope he's not BM's answer.

Lubomir Visnovsky
James Wisniewski (RFA headed for arbitration but Ducks would have to decide to get rid of him)
Toni Lydman
Luca Sbisa (you have to assume he's going to make the team until the Ducks actually add someone of substance)
Sheldon Brookbank
To me the sixth spot is up for grabs between Mikkelson, Festerling, Syvret, Mark Mitera, Cam Fowler and Mat Clark. Let's go into camp and have a good old fashioned battle for that final spot and may the best man win!

Did that last year and somehow Eminger and Whitney still made the team.

Considering the complete lack of news on the signing, (except for the link provided), I'm starting to think someone jumped the gun.
- Not in CapGeek yet
- No announcement from the Ducks
- No news stories of any type upon doing a Google search
The other possibility is that it's ONLY a minor league contract. (But it would appear to me that he would have the background and potential to get a 2-way deal).
I guess we wait and see...

Maybe the McCue post should have been in the duck eggs section since he never played a regular season game for the Ducks.....
Anyways here is another link

As for him not doing much, I would really like a team to give him a shot at playing a whole season, which he has never done. Then make our judgments.

''It's weird how it all worked out, for sure,'' Syvret said. ''It's pretty exciting. It didn't really have an influence on my (signing) decision at all. Corey, he wouldn't try to influence me until I signed. Then he sounded pretty happy.''
...
Syvret said he was encouraged because he believes he'll be battling some other two-way guys for the final spots in the Ducks' rotation. That puts him on even contractual footing, as opposed to trying to supplant some one-way players.
"They said they will have their D set for training camp, and there will be a spot or two open,'' he said. "That's one of the spots I have to win in training camp. I feel like I have a good, fair crack at making the team.''
