The Ducks can't call up Adam unless and until he signs an NHL contract. According to the press release, he only signed an AHL contract.
Not ALL players in Syracuse have to be Anahiem supplied. I'm sure they're working with Anaheim, figuring out where the holes are, and hiring the guys to fill them. Those with an NHL future (potentially) would get NHL/AHL two-way contracts. Those who are viewed as strictly AHL quality will get AHL only contracts.

Thanks for the clarification. I stand corrected.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, aren't we able to give an AHL player an NHL contract during the season if we want to? Like could we sign Perry to an NHL contract (2-way) in the middle of the season and bring him up possibly.

Thats correct. But he has to have an NHL contract which he does not have right now before he can play for the Ducks.

Keep in mind, he could just as easily sign an NHL deal with another team at any time. It's unlikely though.

Good point.
Which begs a question in my mind: If some other NHL team signs Perry, (or any other AHL contracted player), is that player still committed to playing on the original AHL team when sent down? Or does the NHL contract trump/replace the AHL contract, and allow the NHL team to move him to their AHL affiliate instead?
(I didn't say it was an IMPORTANT question....I'm guessing it only happens occasionally.....

I would imagine there is a contingency clause in a standard AHL contract with exactly that in mind. The NHL contract would take precedent, the player would become the property of his new NHL team, and they would place him on their own affiliate.

I believe Anaheim used this to their advantage a few years back to 'poach' either Hoffman or Gillies from another AHL squad and then place him in Portland.

Keep in mind that Anaheim, like all NHL teams is bound by the 50-contract limit, which means the Ducks cannot have more than 50 players signed to NHL contracts at any time. I'm not positive where the Ducks number stands at currently, but it would be unwise to sign a player like Perry to an NHL deal just for the sake of a nice family moment.
Perry is likely to participate in the rookie camp as a tryout and could earn an invitation to the main camp if he does well. Your scenario could happen, but likely with Perry on a tryout agreement, not a full-fledged NHL deal.
