It's closer to Syracuse. The "closer to Anaheim" thing is now defunct.

According to this page (PDF), we now have something ELSE in common with Ottawa (besides the 2007 SCF).

They are also affiliated with Elmira. At least they were for the 2009/10 season.

The close proximity of Elmira to Syracuse will be mutually beneficial to the Crunch and Jackals travel-wise, as the two cities are approximately 90 miles from one another.

Interesting. At least the language from this article seems to indicate that Elmira will share players from the Ducks and Ottawa. Unless I'm reading it wrong.

It's now confirmed that the Jackals will share Ducks' and Ottawa players once the contract with our Canadian friends is completed.

Elmira also announced that it is working toward renewing its deal with the NHL's Ottawa Senators and that team's AHL partner, the Binghamton Senators. Ottawa and Binghamton have been Jackals affiliates the past two seasons.

I just really liked having the Bakersfield Condors as affiliates. It's convenient having your favorite NHL team's affiliate in the same state. Besides, I like the Condors =[

Not convenient for the Ducks who had to shuttle their players across country. The whole "let's move our affiliates to California" was a good idea but an impractical one that, apparently has gone by the way side.

Apparently it's rather common in the ECHL, although I don't like it either.

Considering that there are only 19 ECHL teams, there isn't much choice! (Although, some teams may also have agreements with teams from other minor leagues....I really don't know).

When you consider that most teams only send 3 or 4 players to their ECHL affiliates, if that, I doubt it's a problem unless the two NHL clubs try to swamp a team with too many players at one position....like two goalies. But, since I think the Ducks/Crunch real goal is to have a place for a goaltender to get minutes, it is something to be concerned about.

Players that play in the ECHL are not NHL prospects so I have no issue with splitting the Jackals with the Senators. As DuckNewbie said the NHL teams usually only send a handful of players to their ECHL affiliate so it's actually better for the ECHL team to have to affiliates. If they get four players from both the Ducks and Senators that's eight of their 20 players and that would be very beneficial to their Kelly Cup hopes.

I liked having the Condors as the ECHL affiliate but it is what it is. I hope the Jackals do well and I hope they play the Condors in the Kelly Cup Finals this season so that we can see our prospects in person.

Damn the ECHL schedule is brutal

yes, but it saves money especially in this case. Rarely in the echl you play a team from the other conference. Even at that to save money you sometimes will have to play 3 games in 3 days. I cant imagine how the players deal with 3 games in Alaska. On top of that Alaska plays on Olympic size ice and they are an hour behind pacific time. So not only do they have a huge home ice advantage with the size of ice they play on but they have an hour(or 2) on every team that plays there.

Jackals to open preseason schedule on Oct. 8

The Elmira Jackals will play their first preseason hockey game of the 2010-11 season against the Trenton Devils at 7:35 p.m. Oct. 8 at First Arena, the team announced Friday.




It will mark the debut of new Elmira head coach Malcolm Cameron.
The Jackals will follow that up with a preseason contest against the Reading Royals at 7:35 p.m. Oct. 9 at First Arena.
Elmira opens its ECHL regular season at 7:35 p.m. Oct. 15 against the defending ECHL champion Cincinnati Cyclones at First Arena.
Fans may attend the two preseason games free of charge by purchasing season tickets, which are available by calling 734-7825.
