QUOTE
When Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos says his franchise needs a new economic system to survive, it's ironic to note Karmanos did as much to cause salary growth in the NHL as any single person. His 1998 offer sheet to Detroit Red Wings star Sergei Fedorov, a restricted free agent, was one of two free-agent offers that exponentially raised salaries...

You're absolutely right Baltic. I believe the contract you are talking about had to pay Sergei $26 Million that one year in bonus money: $12 million signing bonus and $14 Million for getting his team to the Stanley Cup Finals. dunce.gif

hmm.gif hmm.gif Well, they can blame each other, the owners and the players. But in the long run, the owners started this mess and now they cry for someone to stop them.

Another shrewd owner will find a way to circumvent ANY agreement and we will be right back in this position.

The whole thing is insane. "Someone stop me, I can't seem to stop making stupid deals with players"......It's the players fault, it sure can't be the idiot owners...eh???

Owners and players (or players agents...) are both to blame.

Not to mention....maybe Karmanos' franchise wouldn't be in so much economic trouble if he left the team in Hartford where they actually had a fan base instead of moving the team to Carolina in the first place! ranting.gif
