So the lockout is upon us. Now what?

Specifically, who is locked out, who's not? Who gets paid, who doesn't?

The largest group is healthy NHL roster players, those with and without contracts. They are all locked out. They won't be permitted to play or sign, they won't get paid and they will be denied access to all team training, practice and playing facilities until a new collective bargaining agreement is reached.

The next group is NHL roster players reassigned to the minor leagues prior to the expiry of the CBA. They are obliged to report to the minor league team where they will earn whatever salary is designated in their contracts.

i wouldn't worry about the players. they've been getting million dollar salaries for years, and like ahti listed, they have plenty of options. the real people getting screwed are the accountants, IT, concession workers, etc that are getting laid off because millionaire unions and billionaire owners can't even bother to sit down and talk.

My Vancouver sales rep told me that they laid off half the office staff and reduced the rest to 80%...they only work/get paid for 4 days a week now.

Well, since the owners have other means of getting income and hockey to most is just a "hobby", why would they care about any of the "little people"??
