QUOTE
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have acquired a second round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Andrew Cogliano.

Cogliano, 24, was drafted by Edmonton in the 1st round, 25th overall, in 2005. In 328 career games with the Oilers, the Toronto, Ontario native had 146 points (57G, 89A).

Bob Murray does know that the Oilers are the worst team in hockey, right? And that they have been for a few years now? Why is he cornering the market on players that the worst team in hockey no longer wants?

Interesting move.
Speedy player WHO ISN'T UNDER CONTRACT. He is an RFA.
We traded for negotiating rights boys ang girls- he made 1,000,000 last season.
Could be an upgrade over Blake, or a replacement for you know who.

They acquired his rights, not a contract, according to NHL.com.

Being active just for the sake of being active isn't always the right idea. I hope we don't sign him to some ludicrous deal, but Cogliano does have potential.

Overall I like the sound of this.

While I do like this move, it is funny how we are becoming the Anaheim Oilers. But hey, trades with them have paid off huge in the past right?

This guy is a rocket ship. I hope that's why he was brought in. We are much harder to play against when we throw a line or two out on the ice that zips and brings energy.

Hope he's healthy, though. There's some mention on Oil boards of him being suspect, and EDM's been trying to unload some injured players on unsuspecting takers (see Dean Lombardi).

He's scheduled to have an arbitration hearing next week. Does anyone know if that will still happen?

Hey, we now know he can deal with someone other than Burke!

Lubo worked out well so I am please with this. Even if he is not under contract, I am liking this trade.

11 goals and 35 points and a -12 in 82 games last season? He sounds like a younger version of Jason Blake to me. At least Blake was good at one point in his career.

I doubt we would have traded for him if we didn't think we could get a deal done. The meeting is still scheduled to happen but it's very likely for them to get a deal done before.

This move definitely gives us more flexibility in our lineup

Good thing is Cogs is still young and has the ability to turn his career around and grow as a player. I think he has some good role models in ANA he can learn a lot from.

I agree that the Ducks will sign him to a contract I just didn't know if the team needed to go to arbitration with him or not. Arbitration ruins a players relationship with a team 99.9% of the time and if the first thing Andrew Cogliano hears from the Ducks is how much he sucks and why he doesn't deserve any money I doubt he'd ever feel like he was truly welcome here.

I love the trade. we needed a 3rd line center, and we got one now. 2nd round pick 2 years from now isn't that big of deal to give up. great trade.
