Sportsnet has learned the league will come off their hard stance of $42.5 million but will not accept the union's latest offer of $49 million.

It would really be stupid if they didn't reach an agreement. We're talking about a difference of just seven million dollars! If any team is going to go bankrupt because of $7 million than they should be contracted because they are not financially strong enough to survive. Besides, that's just the maximum you can spend and few teams will actually spend that much. You think the Blackhawks are going to spend $45 million? Or the Penguins? Of course not. But it will keep the Leafs, Rangers, Red Wings and Avalanche from going crazy every year.

I hope they get something done, but it's 9:30am PT on Wednesday right now and things aren't looking good.

I just read on the Yahoo sports page that the NHL countered the $49 mil from the union with a $44.7 mil cap...come on players that is pretty close to what it probably should be. ana-ban.gif

the problem wasn't the 40 whatever. it was the floor. the owners don't want a floor, the players union wants a floor of like 28 mil
