Can't say I'm surprised. I'm not sorry to see this season cancelled (see my posts elsewhere). But I do agree they better keep talking and work this mess out before long or next season could be toast as well. Will they take back the offers made? Is it back to square 1 (or is it square 0)?

... oh and fire Bettman and Goodenow asap.

The fat lady has sung her last notes ...

I too can't say that I'm unhappy that the season is toast, but the NHL and the NHLPA better keep working at the CBA if they want to see any fans back in the arenas. dry.gif

After all of the progress the last day, you'd think they could at least come up with the CBA...and even if this season was toast at least the anticipation for next season would be there...now we are forced to sit and wait and hope that the deal will get done or else we face the same disappointment for next season and probably the end of the NHL....oh yeah and please FIRE BETTMAN and GOODENOW!!!! mad.gif

Too right on that last comment. And from what I saw of the conference on the net, they are going to take back those offers, since he does not know how damaged the sport is going to be. He mentioned something about ticket pricing to get fans back. So, I am sure this is going to a long drawn out piece of cr@p all over again. Will be somewhat interesting to see the "rebuttal" conference.

Okay, maybe I was one of a few that thought there was a chance. I truly feel stunned, and as of this moment, I feel like I never want to watch NHL hockey again. Only bummer is I have a closet full of NHL stuff that I can't sell as no one cares about hockey at this moment to buy anything. Well, it can sit there until a season someday does resume. I sound morose right now, I feel that way as well. I am going to call the Staple Center and the Pond and ask for my $$$ back. They really don't need to make interest off of it. They will have to offer a lot of incentive to get me back to wasting my hard earned money on them. I did enjoy the last 4 years of going to the Pond, I met a lot of cool friends, including you fun people on All-Ducks. Now I understand some people who where immensely POed over baseball several years ago and took a long time to go back to watching it. Being morose again, sorry, I just feel so blue about all of this. Going to games was really a huge part of my fun factor. Getting dressed up in hockey gear and going to the Pond with my friends was my main source of fun. When it doesn't pain me to read about hockey I'll be back here... Hugs to all!

Ahhh I hope that's not true. sad.gif

Yes, this is a dark day for the game we all love but I hope no one leaves our AD family because of a bunch of greedy morons couldn't compromise. They may have ruined our sport but don't let them ruin our friendships as well. After all Veca is nearly at her 7000th post, you don't want to miss that. smile.gif

I'm not going to comment on the press conference as I may lose my temper and it's not worth it. I had a feeling in my wonky bones that the season would get cancelled, I've more important things to worry about than that lot.

Bettman's cancellation statement: <link>
QUOTE
"The National Hockey League was formed in 1917, and it has played a season through to a championship in every year but 1919. Through the decades and the generations we have faced a variety of crises and challenges -- some of which seemed catastrophic at the time. The League persevered through all those adversities and the League will persevere through this one, as well -- to emerge with a framework for the future, one that is fair to everyone -- where our players are fairly paid, receiving what we can afford -- no more, no less.

"This is a sad, regrettable day that all of us wish could have been avoided."

In 1919, when the Stanley Cup was not skated, the Chicaco Black Socks scandal and the Boston Red Socks winning the pennant were also big news.

In 2005, when the Stanley Cup will again not be skated, the Chicago Cubs among other baseball clubs are in the midst of a steroid scandal and the Boston Red Socks are again the champions of baseball.

It's all baseball's fault!! crybaby.gif

Francaise - because the season is canceled they will legally have to return all deposits. At least with the Ducks, you earned interest.

I am not surprised by this turn of events at all. However, when you finally get close enough that you are only $7million away in disagreement - you cannot manage to split the difference and call it good? Both sides have been stubborn and unmoving. The real costs are coming down the line of this attitude and decision.

So at this point, there is no draft in June because there is no agreement. Will there be a 2005?

No hockey, sad, but expected. Both sides are stubborn jackasses and I doubt any agreement will be met soon. It's pretty pathetic that they are NOW speaking to the fans about the situation, after it's all about the millions they make; I hope they have enough to buy their platinum toilet seats. mad.gif

mad.gif Yup....it's all over!!! We were watching ESPN this morning, hoping to hear good news, instead we got to be creeped out by Bettman and his "my way or the highway" stance!!

Interesting that Bettman is so adamant about NO third party getting involved. The players are willing to let this be heard by an independent Arbitrator while Bettman will not hear of it. In any hearing, the books, all of them would come out and it's clear the NHL will have none of that.
The guys at ESPN couldn't believe that with the players giving in so much, the NHL would not budge. Many seem to feel that what was becoming a splintered union, reconnected after reading Bettmans final letter. Here the players went behind Goodenows back and gave in to so much, yet Bettman takes this no compromise stance.

There were some interesting points made by the guys at ESPN. Many feel that the biggest block to any agreement is the clash between Bettman and Goodenow. Gosh, 'ya think??
I'm sure that Bettman was also bolstered by the fans support, something that the guys at ESPN talked about. With fans still feeling that hockey players are all millionaires and should give in to the demands of the owners, I fear he had no intention of giving an inch! As the guys said, not all the players are well off and a lot are struggling to pay their bills. It's very hard to adjust to a lower income or no income for anyone. Been there, done that. Even for a hockey player. dry.gif

Well, that is how life works. Butt heads rule and what can we do????

The league minimum salary is $185,000, so I'm wondering who the players are who aren't well off? And getting $10,000 of lockout pay isn't helping them pay the bills? hmm.gif

I don't know why the NHL and PA couldn't just agree on a 45 million cap...sounds like a good comprimise to me.

MrsBevo, WHY do you like to state the obvious with me? No duh, since I HAVE been a season ticket holder for several years, I do know the rules of the whole thing. I was mad about the season and venting. Like NO one ever vents? BTW, it was more than a deposit, I had paid for my whole season.

Ms. B: I have a deposit for two seats with the Ducks and I have called and they have not responded. I never bought the actual tickets because of the lockout -- my thought was why put more into it than the deposit? Anyway, do we really get the "deposit" back? And how do you know this? And who do I talk to at the Ducks?
