I too can't say that I'm unhappy that the season is toast, but the NHL and the NHLPA better keep working at the CBA if they want to see any fans back in the arenas.

Too right on that last comment. And from what I saw of the conference on the net, they are going to take back those offers, since he does not know how damaged the sport is going to be. He mentioned something about ticket pricing to get fans back. So, I am sure this is going to a long drawn out piece of cr@p all over again. Will be somewhat interesting to see the "rebuttal" conference.

Ahhh I hope that's not true.
Yes, this is a dark day for the game we all love but I hope no one leaves our AD family because of a bunch of greedy morons couldn't compromise. They may have ruined our sport but don't let them ruin our friendships as well. After all Veca is nearly at her 7000th post, you don't want to miss that.
I'm not going to comment on the press conference as I may lose my temper and it's not worth it. I had a feeling in my wonky bones that the season would get cancelled, I've more important things to worry about than that lot.

In 2005, when the Stanley Cup will again not be skated, the Chicago Cubs among other baseball clubs are in the midst of a steroid scandal and the Boston Red Socks are again the champions of baseball.
It's all baseball's fault!!

I am not surprised by this turn of events at all. However, when you finally get close enough that you are only $7million away in disagreement - you cannot manage to split the difference and call it good? Both sides have been stubborn and unmoving. The real costs are coming down the line of this attitude and decision.
So at this point, there is no draft in June because there is no agreement. Will there be a 2005?

Interesting that Bettman is so adamant about NO third party getting involved. The players are willing to let this be heard by an independent Arbitrator while Bettman will not hear of it. In any hearing, the books, all of them would come out and it's clear the NHL will have none of that.
The guys at ESPN couldn't believe that with the players giving in so much, the NHL would not budge. Many seem to feel that what was becoming a splintered union, reconnected after reading Bettmans final letter. Here the players went behind Goodenows back and gave in to so much, yet Bettman takes this no compromise stance.
There were some interesting points made by the guys at ESPN. Many feel that the biggest block to any agreement is the clash between Bettman and Goodenow. Gosh, 'ya think??
I'm sure that Bettman was also bolstered by the fans support, something that the guys at ESPN talked about. With fans still feeling that hockey players are all millionaires and should give in to the demands of the owners, I fear he had no intention of giving an inch! As the guys said, not all the players are well off and a lot are struggling to pay their bills. It's very hard to adjust to a lower income or no income for anyone. Been there, done that. Even for a hockey player.
Well, that is how life works. Butt heads rule and what can we do????

I don't know why the NHL and PA couldn't just agree on a 45 million cap...sounds like a good comprimise to me.

MrsBevo, WHY do you like to state the obvious with me? No duh, since I HAVE been a season ticket holder for several years, I do know the rules of the whole thing. I was mad about the season and venting. Like NO one ever vents? BTW, it was more than a deposit, I had paid for my whole season.
