This is from the WHL round up in the Seattle Times:
QUOTE
When National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman announced the cancellation of the season, it also meant the cancellation of the league's entry draft.
I guess the baby went out with the bathwater. The whole article is here: Seattle Times WHL Notebook

No agreement, no draft. Talk about fall out all the way around.....poor guys who were eligible. What happens to them? Of course, where would they play at this point?

I posted this on another thread:

From the Toronto Star:

QUOTE
Now that the league has clearly used its largest leverage point, it enters a number of quagmires that the NHLPA knows will be a huge cause of concern. The league is eager to get an agreement in place soon so it can hold a draft and prevent junior sensation Sidney Crosby from taking court action to become an unrestricted free agent.

Well, that would make things interesting. Can you imagine if that kid becomes a free agent??

Sidney can still play in the CHL and wait until next year's draft because he's still young enough. Each CHL team is allowed to have 3 overage players, so some guys will be able to stay on their junior teams another year. Otherwise, they can play college hockey or try to get an ECHL deal while waiting for the NHL to come back on line.

Yes he could do that, but what if he doesn't want to? What if he doesn't want to wait for the NHL to get its act together? If he goes in the draft, no matter when it is, he has no control over where he goes. Especially after a new CBA is signed, he could end up anywhere. If he becomes a free agent, he gets more control over what happens to himself and his furture. And if that happens, it'll sure be interesting to see how it all plays out.

hmm.gif If Sidney becomes a free agent and the NHL get's it's act together, I could see a mad scramble to obtain him. With a cap on, it will be interesting to see how creative some of the goofy rich teams can get. And we all know they will be doing whatever they can to get the next "Great One".... dry.gif

What I was thinking was if that kid becomes a free agent before the new CBA is signed, how many teams will be wanting a higher salary cap so they can try to get him???

Like I said, it'll be interesting to see how all this plays out.

Of course it will play out, one way or the other. Even if we never have the NHL, it still will "play out. "

hmm.gif Now who would go home and why??? Even if we don't have an NHL anymore, most of the kids will still want to play in the AHL, ECHL and all those other leagues I would think. I can't see any of them just give up.
But then you being a young lad yourself, you may better understand the mind set of the young guys....
