NHL to Reinvent Itself When Play Resumes
Here's the part that I believe we'll all like ...
QUOTE
"There's been a lot of talk about making the game more exciting, opening up the game, bringing back the offense that was there in the 1980s and early 1990s," said Lemieux, the Penguins' player-owner. "It's going to be a lot more exciting when the NHL comes back. It's going to be a great game with, hopefully, a lot more scoring and a lot of offense ... and (less) clutching and grabbing."

This one is something Veca will look forward too. biggrin.gif
QUOTE
To aid the impression that hockey is a fast, edgy game, NHL uniform supplier Reebok plans to outfit players in flashier, sleeker and more formfitting uniforms next season.

Now they just need to stop being greedy bastards and COME BACK!!! mad.gif All these things are nice and fine (well, except for the form fitting uniforms blink.gif ) but for God's sakes, if they don't agree on this #@$% CBA what's the point of all this talk?

Yet another hockey tradition shot to hell. I read that about the new sweaters in Sports Illustrated -- count this fan as very angry. Hockey jerseys are almost a religious symbol to those of us who grew up with the game, and although I never lived during the era when true wool sweaters were the norm, I struggle with the change from them yet! I have many of those sweaters, and treat them with extreme reverence. A form-fitting, speedskater style jersey? Come on. What a stupid idea -- what, do they want to show the shoulder pads off to the fans???

It may be time to cross over to the other side... say it with me, folks... N... B.... A........

You beat me to the exact words DK! We need to have a "next season" first before we go about working any game upgrades. And I'm most definitely questioning those sleeker uniforms. eyebrow.gif I can't see how anything less is going to offer enough protection even if there's less slashing, hacking, whacking with new rules.

I like all the proposed rule changes except for the no touch icing.

HDTV is a great idea. VOOM broadcast some of the WJC games in HD and they looked AMAZING. HD anything is great. I find myself watching stuff I would normally never watch, like football and the Daytona 500, just because it's in HD.

I really would like to know more details on that. It sounds pretty stupid. I mean with all the gear hockey players wear how much "sleeker and more formfitting" can you get? Are the players going to look like some of those stuffed sausages in the NFL. As for the "flashier" part, you could just add some glitter..........like at least one team already does rolleyes.gif .

biggrin.gif Oh, chill kids!!! As always, Buttman misunderstood what I wrote, that's all!!!

There will be big changes in the NHL before any games begin. Trust me on that.
I see that at least the NHL is getting the message that the fans are turning on them. As long as they felt the fans blamed everything on the players, they felt confident of their path. Once they got the inkling that some fans were blaming them equally and maybe once all the stories about how the NHL blocked all negotiations at the end would get to the fans, they may get a lot more heat....well now they are hustling to find ways to mend fences with the fans!!! Morons!!!

Well now, Veca may not be the only one who will be looking forward to that.

I may be too. dribble.gif But I will wait until I see the boys modeling some of those form fitting uniforms before I say for sure.sleazy.gif

All kidding aside, I'm sure all it will do is make the boys look goofy. Well, for some of them goofier then normal. rolleyes.gif

Here's the part of the article Ducks fans won't like:

QUOTE
The NHL believes the changes will force coaches to play a more wide-open style. In recent seasons, overachieving teams such as the Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Calgary Flames relied on suffocating, star-controlling defenses to reach the Stanley Cup finals.
Thanks for the insult! mad.gif

It's funny because the New Jersey Devils are really the team who plays that defense to win their titles...I guess they forgot about THEM!!! But joy for us because without that type of defense I guess New Jersey is screwed too. biggrin.gif ana-ban.gif

I don't believe any of this. They "think" the NHL will be more exciting, that there will be more scoring and so on ... but they also thought that previous rule changes would have the same effect.

So please stop this nonsense : sign a CBA first, then we'll see what the game looks like.

Two words....Tie Domi..??? Whats with the mention of the pit bull??? He's pretty buff so he just might look pretty good with those thick arms showing.....sure they will have to put a bag.gif on his head, but hey, you can't have everything!!!!

The Devils invented the suffocating D style. I just don't think anyone in the NHL has the balls to tell Lou to his face they have to change their style....hehehehe
And who can blame them. In case you are not catching the drift, this is the NHL's way of kissing up to the fans once they realized that the fans were turning on them as well.

There is so much infighting going on now, who knows how it will all turn out. I'm just happy to see that the NHL woke up and finally realized that they too will be getting some of the heat for this debacle. Had they signed an agreement with the players earlier, the union was busted. That was what all the owners were after. Bettman acting on behalf of the 8 teams that are his "friends", ruined all that. Now the union is again tight and they are starting from scratch??? How crazy is that??? Let's just see what the 13 teams who were happy with the deal with the players do now!!! rolleyes.gif

I like the no touch icing. Too many D-men get hurt. Everything else seems pretty good. Would be nice to see goalies not padded up like the Michelin man though. Well.....I don't get the uniform thing though. hehehhehehe
