"I don't want to tarnish my sport with this book, nor to point the finger at any individuals as the baseball player Jose Canseco recently did," Morissette writes at the end of his 183-page book. "I just want to make my little contribution towards stopping these dangerous practises."

dry.gif They showed him at the hearings. A lot of the players are still in denial. There was a nice story done on the news about the whole mess with pictures of before and after players. Not that hard to miss. Sad, very sad!!!

I've heard that some players do use stimulates (especially cold medication and caffeine) in the NHL. I wonder how widespread the steroid use is---I really hope it's not. The players and the league better pay attention to what has happened to MLB and look into performance enhancing drug testing for this new CBA. NHL Hockey has enough problems without adding this too.

Interesting comment:

"And I needed steroids to get there, because I knew that the majority of toughs of the NHL were taking them."

Anyone want to speculate on some of better known enforcers?

sad.gif Just look at the ones who look "unnatural"....see how they look at different stages of their career. Steroids are visible. Look at Hulk Hogan, look at our own Governor. I could go on and on. Even a very popular Rock'n roll icon. The changes that steroids make on the inside can be seen on the outside.
They are playing with fire when they use steroids. sad.gif

Okay, I'm gonna ask a question, because I really don't know, don't laugh...

Are steroids illegal? I know it's not cool to use them in sports as it gives one an unfair advantage. I know many sports "ban" them. But, are they illegal?

Some are, some aren't. If I remember correctly, Mark McGwire took a substance that although a steroid was not a banned substance. It has since been banned, I think. Sudaphedrine is a stimulant found in tons and tons of different cold medications, but it is considered a stimulant and an illegal substance in terms of the Olympics.

I actually discovered that Target has a two product limit for items with sudephedrine in it. Everyone was sick and we were out of cold medications. I had to buy the two products and then I paid separately for the third. Dear Mr. B said it was because they apparently use it in meth labs?!?!?! All I can say was I was glad there wasn't a limit on chocolate purchases, because I would have had to have about 10 different receipts to buy everything!

Additionally, just because something is legal doesn't mean it isn't harmful. For example cigarettes and alcohol.

I don't think they are illegal if they are prescribed for specific medical conditions and the patient is being monitored by a physician. My cousin has lupus and has taken steroids and I think there are steroids in some asthema inhalers. Although I don't know if these a different type of steroid from anabolic steroids that the athletes may be taking.

But I believe they are illegal if they are obtained without a valid medical prescription.

Where's Captain Baloney when you need him?

Are Steroids Illegal?

Yes. Without a doctor's prescription for a medical condition, it's against the law to possess, sell, or distribute anabolic steroids.

Legal prosecution can be a serious side effect of illicit steroid use. Under federal law, first-time simple possession of anabolic steroids carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $1,000 fine. For first-offense trafficking in steroids, the maximum penalty is five years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Second offenses double this penalty. In addition to federal penalties, state laws also prohibit illegal anabolic steroid use.

Yes Mrs Bevo, I am a shrimpy who needs to beef up. hahahahahahah

Well, if "athletes" take them, I doubt they are buying them out of a van in the alley. So, IF they aren't banend in their sport ie, NHL, MLB, then who cares if they took them? Besides giving yourself an unfair advantage? I guess I am trying to figure out the hoopty doop on all of this. Not YOU guys, the media in general. no one will clearly say if it is illegal or not, yes DTP, I mean the anabolic type. I really truly wnat to know if they are illegal. Because if not, then I am yawn bored of hearing of past use. Then the fricking MLB and NHL should ban them already adn quit whining about it. Well, I guess the NHL isn't yet, but......Besides, wouldn't Vish look cute with a big fat neck? heheheheheheheheheeh

I found this on the Department of Justice website. link.

According to this stie, steroids are illegal if not distributed with a valid prescription because they are classified as schedule III drugs (controlled substances).

Ooops...this is a pdf file so you'll need Adobe Acrobat to read it and click the bookmark: "Is abusing steroids illegal?"

Pumped: Living Fast, Loose, And On The Juice During My Tumultuous DC Days—And Nights.
A new tell-all by former Secretary of State Colin Powell

QUOTE
"The signs were right there, if anyone had cared to pay attention," Powell said. "The bursts of foul-mouthed rage from Cheney... The sudden emergence of Donald Rumsfeld as a major-league heavy hitter in Defense... And how anyone overlooked Condi's pop-eyed, clench-jawed grimace, I'll never know. She was shooting up with synthetic testosterone every six hours—more on Cabinet-meeting days."

NHL turns documents about its drug-testing policies to the congressional committee looking into steroids in sports.
QUOTE
The NHL does not test players for performance-enhancing drugs, while first-time offenders are suspended for five games in the NBA. Tennis, cycling and track follow International Olympic Committee and World Anti-Doping Agency standards, including a minimum two-year ban for a first offence and a lifetime ban for a second offence.
