Spector / Special to FOXSports.com

One sure sign that the NHL lockout may be soon drawing to a close is the increase in player movement rumors in recent weeks.

This will be a very interesting summer once the CBA is ironed out! I predict lots of player movement. hmm.gif

Great link, DTP.

Modano to be cut loose? That's surprising. First Hatcher now Modano? Maybe they should change their name to the Dallas No Stars.

It will be very interesting to see what Burke does with Fedorov. We're going to have quite an interesting summer, hockey fans, and here in Anaheim we've got a nice little soap opera developing. Stay tuned!

Oh yeah and one more question doesn't free agency start July 1st?

Usually, yes. But this year it will be delayed. Once the new CBA is announced a date for free agency, the draft and other key off-season events will also be announced.

Waddell, the Atlanta Thrashers GM, will have plenty of salary cap room but still faces two difficult signings in restricted free-agent stars Dany Heatley and Ilya Kovalchuk. Ferguson, Waddell's counterpart with the Toronto Maple Leafs, will likely be looking to cut before he thinks of adding.

There is growing speculation that Canucks captain Markus Naslund and longtime friend and Swedish teammate Peter Forsberg would like to reunite to play together at the NHL level.

I don't see that as very likey since Nazzy has said he wants to retire a Canuck and Foppa has stated that he wants to go back to Colorado.

What they say they want to do and what they end up doing are usually two very different things, H2K. I'd be very surprised if Naslund played his whole career in Vancouver and I'd be equally as surprised if Forsberg played his whole career in Colorado. Wayne Gretzky played for four teams, so if he can be shopped around anyone can.

Of course, but by that same token if it is now speculated they'd like to play together it's just as likely to be as true or untrue as anything else. biggrin.gif

I wouldn't. Nazzy has said on several occasions that he will only sign one more NHL contract and then go home to play in Sweden. It will take a lot to pry him away from Vancouver, he and his family are very attached to the city. Possible? Of course! Just not likely.

I wouldn't object to having the spleenless wonder (Forsberg) on the Ducks. Just think - you could have submarine night (Dive! Dive! Dive!)

And they could hand out (Swedish) meatball subs to the first 5000 fans or something! Great promotion! biggrin.gif

Spector Rumors / Special to FOXSports.com
QUOTE
The site suggested possible buyout candidates might include forwards Ray Whitney and Darren McCarty and blueliner Derian Hatcher.
...
Heika envisioned a scenario where the Stars cut loose Guerin and Turgeon and use the savings to pursue big-name free agents that might be available at much cheaper prices.
...
Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, there's speculation the Flyers could set their sights on New Jersey Devils blueliner Scott Niedermayer, whom the Philadelphia Inquirer dubbed "the most prized unrestricted free agent of the summer".
...
Furthermore, there's been some speculation on the West Coast that Bertuzzi doesn't get along with head coach Marc Crawford, and might be further spurred to leave town if linemate Markus Naslund should sign elsewhere.

From the Spector Rumor story:

QUOTE
Expect the Vancouver media to start stumping for the Canucks to bring Niedermayer back home.

Too late. biggrin.gif When both Niedermayer boys took one year contracts last summer, the speculation began that both boys would go and sign with Vancouver so they could not only play together, but in front of the home town crowd. rolleyes.gif

I've got to say I've missed these player rumors. It's nice to have them back.
