With the NHL set to unveil a new collective bargaining agreement with tough new limits on entry-level contracts, a source said Wednesday that Crosby has been offered a three-year deal that could be worth as much as $10 million US including a multimillion-dollar signing bonus by the Swiss club.
Crosby negotiating with Swiss club

If $850,000 isn't enough money in addition to his endorsement deals with Reebok and Gatorade...he can go to Switzerland IMO. Despite the hype, he's still an unproven rookie playing in the juniors. He hasn't earned the right to be paid millions yet. And for his agent to be holding this deal over Crosby's potential NHL team is exactly what's wrong with the system in the first place.

Wait! He's in it for the money shock.gif not for the love of the game? Damn! He's already thinking like an NHL veteran!

"Brainwashed" by his agent no doubt, just as all the NHL players were by their union leader. If agents' fees are based on their clients' salaries, then they certainly want to be shown the money ... perhaps even disregarding their clients' primary wishes.

"His priority is the NHL. He's hoping it is going to get resolved."

Brisson says even if the NHL and the NHLPA work out a new collective bargaining agreement, caps on entry-level salaries could still make it more profitable for Crosby to play outside of North America.

"I can't deny that we've been in serious talks with Lugano," Brisson told The Canadian Press from Los Angeles. "It's a serious offer. We're keeping in mind that Sidney's goal is to play in the National Hockey League but we have to listen.

"Not knowing what the entry-level restrictions will be in the upcoming CBA, we need to cover our bases."
...
"We would want some sort of mechanism which would allow him to come back if he wanted, but it could come at a price," Brisson said.

"Obviously I'm going to consider other places, but if there's an NHL (season) that's where I want be," Crosby said in an interview with CBC News. "Right now, I want to make sure that I have somewhere to go if there is no NHL season, but we're thinking best-case scenario that there's going to be one, so that's what I'm worried about."

"It's good. It's a special situation I think in my case," Crosby said. "A lot of guys don't get that opportunity to go to any team. Usually they have a little bit of an idea with where they are ranked.

"With me, there's a little bit of an excitement factor, a surprise factor, not knowing exactly where I'm going to end up. It'll be fun to see how the lottery works out."

But Crosby said Monday he would play in the NHL for less money.

"Oh yeah. The NHL is where I want to be," he said. "It's where I've dreamed of playing. It's the best league in the world."

Crosby said he wants to have a backup plan, in case NHL talks collapse.

Ok, I owe Sid an apology for the title of my topic. blush.gif Sorry kid!

Crosby, speaking from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, said on TSN that he had played with Lemieux a few times last summer and was looking forward to becoming teammates. "Just to be around him and see the way he handles things and carries himself, I learned a lot and hope I'll get to learn more," Crosby said.

Crosby, whose dream is to play for the Montreal Canadiens, said he's more than happy to play for Pittsburgh.

"I had all 30 teams here on a piece of paper and I was just crossing them out as they went," he said from his home town in Nova Scotia.

"Obviously the advantage of going to Pittsburgh as a young team and, you know, they had a great finish to the season last year. I'd like to be a part of that and obviously, you know, you can't go without mentioning Mario Lemieux. He would be a great role model."

Pittsburgh potentially has a very good, young team. In the last three drafts, they have had the 1st, 2nd, and 1st draft picks so they have three franchise players. I'm disappointed the Ducks didn't get the #1 pick, but playing in Pittsburgh with Mario should be a good thing for Crosby. Congratulations to the Pens and Crosby.

How's this for quirky synergy? When Lemieux was drafted No. 1 in 1984, a goalie from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League was chosen 240 spots later by Montreal. Troy Crosby never made it to the NHL, but his son will, starting Oct. 5.

Then Troy Crosby can put another picture on his wall in Cole Harbour, N.S.

"I've been told he's got a photo in his den where he's looking back into the net . . . I was on a breakaway and I roofed it," Lemieux said Saturday, describing a goal he scored as a junior against Troy Crosby. "He was a little late on it."

What if Sidney Crosby fails?

t is a question no one wants to deal with, not the National Hockey League, not the Pittsburgh Penguins, not NBC, not anyone who has hitched his wagon to this kid who has yet to play a professional game.

Penguin irony ...
QUOTE
Sidney Crosby says he'll gladly don a Pittsburgh Penguins sweater at the NHL draft in Ottawa on Saturday, which is something Mario Lemieux refused to do 21 years ago. It was a shocking snub.
