Steve Yzerman is expected to speak to Detroit Red Wings officials on Monday about the one-year contract the club has offered the longtime captain to return for his 22nd season.

The Red Wings wanted to know by this past weekend whether the 40-year-old Yzerman planned to accept the offer, but both sides agreed to talk on Monday after having trouble getting in touch Sunday.

smile.gif From what I read, it's Stevie Y that is thinking about it. I hope he plays at least one more season, he is a class player and fun to watch.

Why, Stevie Y, why? Nothing against the old guy, but he and Chelios need to explore retirement.

butbut.gif Stevie??? Not yet!!! The delay is because he is doing just that, exploring retirement but I think the Red Wings still need him with all the changes going on.....

Simple, one more year than he'll retire. As a Stevie Y and Wings fan I don't want his last game to be the game where he got hit by the puck.

Either he'll sign for one more year or he'll retire, there is not way he'll go to another team.
