STL got the better deal. Brewer will be like Pronger but is a few years younger.

Well blow me over with a feather. shock.gif

I don't think the Oilers were ever in any of the "Pronger to" rumors.

I hope Pronger enjoys the winters in Alberta! bigwink.gif

Star defenceman Chris Pronger signed a $31.25 million US, five-year deal with Edmonton after the Oilers acquired the restricted free agent from the St. Louis Blues late on Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old blue-liner will earn $6.25 million a season with the Oilers, who scheduled a 1 p.m. ET news conference in Edmonton to discuss the blockbuster trade. Pronger would have earned $10.5 million in 2004-05 had the lockout not wiped out the season.

"It's really ironic, as far as the two teams being involved," said Doug Weight, the former Oiler and current member of the St. Louis Blues, Pronger's old team. "Chris Pronger going to the Edmonton Oilers because of money reasons? It's different. It's probably some uncharted waters for Edmonton in the last 10 or 15 years. So I guess I'm going to have to come out and complain about it in the St. Louis papers the way I used to do in Edmonton," he joked.

"I don't think it will sink in until training camp that I'm not here," Pronger said. "It's still very new and there's obviously a lot of stuff going on. It's not a death sentence; I'm certainly not dying."
