5. Anaheim Mighty Ducks: New GM Brian Burke landed arguably the most attractive prize in the free-agent market when he persuaded New Jersey Devils defenceman Scott Niedermayer to join the Ducks' new jazzed-up West Coast offence (and play alongside his younger brother Rob). When the Ducks and Devils met in the Stanley Cup final in 2003, many thought Niedermayer, not Ducks goaltender J.S. Gigučre, should have been the playoff MVP. After re-signing Sandis Ozolinsh, Anaheim boasts an excellent first four on defence. Gigučre will need to bounce back from a subpar season, and there will be questions about the Ducks' offence, which falls off after Sergei Fedorov and Petr Sykora. Junior graduate Ryan Getzlaf may be part of the scoring solution.

rolleyes.gif I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one baffled by the whole Lapointe thing. How does he get those huge contracts??

21. Los Angeles Kings: Just about every player who made a difference in Los Angeles in previous years is no longer with the Kings, including Ziggy Palffy, Jason Allison and Adam Deadmarsh, so coach Andy Murray essentially starts with a blank canvas. Jeremy Roenick should be boffo for the box office, but it is not clear whether Pavol Demitra, Val Bure and Craig Conroy (signed away from Calgary last summer) will provide enough scoring to make the Kings competitive again. Much of the improvement, when it comes, will occur when graduates of the Kings' minor-league affiliate in Manchester, N.H., (primarily Mike Cammalleri) demonstrate they can score at an NHL level. Former Hab Mathieu Garon will be pivotal as the Kings try to settle on a new No. 1 goaltender.

LOL! I like what the article had to say about the Kings!

Call them what they are... A 30 million dollar payroll Manchester team that plays at Staples center in front of 8000 Lakers season seat holders held hostage to buy the Manchester teams seats. And about 9,000 other fans who think they know hockey.

Good call, GDBK!
wink.gif I think I actually hate the Kings fans more than I hate the Kings themselves.

You DO realize that this is just ONE paper - several others, have the Ducks far down in the pack. It's all subjective - based on who the person who wrote the articles likes & dislikes. Be realistic.

Reality check again... The Kings were the most injured team in NHL history and STILL placed ahead of the Ducks - what again was the Ducks reason for being out the playoffs? And don't even attempt to use the injury excuse.

Not trying to start a riot with these posts, just please be realistic. Everything is subjective until the season starts - The Ducks, like ALL teams, do not have all pieces in place. Only time will tell.
