Hi just looking at teams that are in trouble cap wise like us, and came up with these teams:

New Jersey - 21 players at $43,748,929 nearly $5 mil over ana-ban.gif

Boston - 17 players at $31,078,000, 2 contracts Undisclosed, and no goalie!!!

Toronto - 21 players at $39,177,600, just over

These were the worse off but also Tampa, Philadelphia and the Rangers all look like they could be worse than use

you know though if ruch or leclerc resign with there new teams then we get a 2nd round choice for them which is a steal in my view but if they dont its a 4th round pick with isnt that bad but the 2 2nd round picks would be great to use to get into the 1st round or move up with our 1st round pick

In 2003-04, Cooke finished the year on Vancouver's top line but was near the bottom of the pay scale, at $525,000 US per year. He was to make $750,000 in the season lost to the lockout and has already nixed a qualifying offer of $627,000.

Cooke is believed to want somewhere around $1.25 million per season.
...
That could take some doing. The Canucks already have 22 players signed for $37.4 million, although at least a couple of them are destined to the start the year on the farm with the Manitoba Moose, where they don't count against the cap.

Kronwall's signing was significant, but two big names remain free: Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, who rank as No. 1 and No. 1a, respectively, on offense. Datsyuk's agent, Gary Greenstin, said earlier this week that his client is still considering an offer from Moscow Dynamo, but his priority remains to play in Detroit.

The Wings have $32.5 million allotted to payroll and would like to come in at $37.5 million, giving them around $5 million to sign Datsyuk, Zetterberg and one last third- or fourth-line forward.

Balance sheets change the balance of power ...

These teams never faced money issues ... until now

...
That certainly holds true for the New York Rangers, with its league-high payroll producing a seven-year playoff drought. News of acquiring Steve Rucchin from Anaheim and signing Jarkko Immonen hardly seems worthy of the usual Broadway splash.
...
The New Jersey Devils, another perennial post-season contender, are also feeling the pinch. The Devils lost Norris Trophy winner and longtime lynchpin Scott Niedermayer to the Mighty Ducks.

Hmm. . .they could always trade their captain in a salary dump to make way for scorers. You know, do it for the good of the team thing. . .<sarcasm off>

At a promotional event in Durham, N.C., last week, Karmanos, one of the NHL's hard-line owners, ripped some of his colleagues for overpaying players.

"Names don't score goals," Karmanos told the Raleigh (N.C.) News-Observer. "Just because somebody gets paid a lot of money, that doesn't make them really great. Has everybody lost their hockey mind? Some of the GMs have a short attention span."

The Hurricanes' most significant free-agent moves were signing ex-Red Wing Ray Whitney, forward Cory Stillman and defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky. Their payroll is $27.8 million -- well below the $39 million salary cap -- and they might qualify for the league's new revenue-sharing plan.
...
"Some of the other general managers don't realize they don't get mulligans anymore. Philadelphia and Detroit and Toronto, before if they made a $10 million mistake, they'd go out and get another player. Those days are gone. We're going to see in the long run how it works out."
