New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur is in the running to win both the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player and the Vezina Trophy for top goaltender for the second straight year.

I'm going to pick Martin St. Louis for the Hart and Mikka Kiprusoff for the Vezina. smile.gif

How was Belfour not nominated for the Vezina?? I'l have to go with the Kipper for that one. And since Marty couldn't get it done without Stevens, how can he be the most valuable player??? Martin St. Louis for sure!

Well, unfortunately, Kipper won't get it. Turco didn't get it last year, even though he posted the lowest GAA since World War 2 because he "missed" 20 games due to injury. Likewise with Kipper this year. Luongo, let's hope so! Even though he is a greedy cow at the moment demanding more $$$$.

As for MVP, yeah, since Stevens went bye bye, Brody sorts sucked. Funny no mention of Belfour or Nabokov, or even Turco, since if Turco and Nabby hadn't been good, their respective teams wouldn't hvae made the playoffs. I hate Brodeur so bad, my blood boils! Deep breath Yvette......

Is Khabibulin a candidate for the Vezina? Without looking it up, I thought he had a pretty good year, and did help TB get the most points in the East....

Nope, he's not. Sorry.
If all y'all would click the link you'd see who are the finalists for all the major awards. smile.gif

Oh, oops. I didn't realize they had released the finalists; I thought it was just a story saying that Brodeur was in the running, and didn't feel like reading another Brodeur ass-kissing blurb... smile.gif

How is Brodeur nominated for MVP?! His stats were okay, but nothing special, at least in comparison to previous seasons. And his team finished 6th! My picks would be the following:

Hart - St. Louis
Lady Byng - who cares
Vezina - Kiprusoff
Calder - Raycroft
Norris - Chara
Selke - Draper

I apologize Jeff. I should have been more obvious when posting the article that it included more than "Marty the weasel." biggrin.gif

SG, I believe that I agree with all your picks except I would probably now choose Alfredsson for the Lai-dee Byng. smile.gif

By the way, Mullet Barry picked Brodeur to be the Hart winner. That shows how much he knows about hockey = 0

I think it was Buccigross who was giving him a hard time, because he picked Brodeur to win the Hart, but not the Vezina. And that kinda makes sense... how can you be the best player overall, but not the best goaltender? blink.gif

This year Brody don't deserves awards, but he can always steal the past season Giguere's Conn Smythe Trophy. At least he'll stop to complain about that. smile.gif

What? St. Marty? The greatest goalie ever to grace us with his presence? Of course ALL awards belong to St. Marty! How dare you profane the name of St. Marty the Great!!!

I would give the Hart to St.Louis. He has been more consistent this season than Brodeur or Iginla.

Luongo for Vezina. PLEASE. Yes, he didn't really "take" the team anywhere, but consider the scores if he hadn't been in net this season. They would be pretty ugly. Also consider how many pucks he faced, how many quality scoring chances, and how many he stopped. Kipprusoff only played in 38 games with a better deffense. I won't even go into why Brodeur shouldn't win it as it's pretty obvious to everyone here. If Luongo doesn't win the Vezina, I'm going to boycott the NHL awards voters for life.

Yes, but if they give the Vezina to Luongo, then he anad his agent can cry and whine even more for more money. I hate every freaking player who "demands" a truckload of money. Hallo, didn't he notice the players may NOT play??? It took me quite some time to get over Jiggy demanding a pile of cash, and HE'S my favorite player. How on Earth can these hockey players possibly think they deserve more money than NFL players? The NFL makes a fortune, the NHL does not. Oh, sorry, this is a post on trophy whiners, er winners.

I think I won't watch the awards and read here who won.

Greed sucks, but like it or not, Luongo deserves the Vezina.

I can't believe Luongo is pulling a Yashin. mad.gif These players should honor their contracts because it's not like they are willing to renegotiate their contracts when they have off years. Luongo is going to be one of the best goalies in the NHL, but he still hasn't done anything yet to be demanding top dollar. Maybe he's trying to get the Pathers to trade him, but if he doesn't honor his contract, the Panthers could still say he owes them a year (as Ottawa did with Yashin).

 I don't understand why Brodeur is a finalist for the Vezina or the Hart and Kippersoff didn't play enough games. So I guess by default I think Luongo should the Vezina.
