Corey Schwab? blink.gif You sure DIG, he's only in his 20's. I think your mistaken. He's the Devils backup goalie.

Ari Ahonen will be the back up or Scott Clemmensen.

Oh my bad again! Schwab is retired. So the Devils have no backup goalie at all.

Marty NOW has a lot of pressure on him. No experienced backup goalie, and defense is crippling, I see the Devils 4th in the Atlantic Division or 5th.

Info on James Patrick's retirement:
QUOTE
Sabres defenceman James Patrick retired Thursday to end a 21-year NHL career and accepted an assistant coaching position with the team.

Patrick, 42, contemplated playing for one more season, but made the decision to retire when the Sabres offered him a job as a developmental instructor - a position the team created specifically for him.

"When I analyze it, I never would've dreamed of playing as long as I have and I'm excited about taking this next step," Patrick said.

Nope, nothing more than the same old stuff:
QUOTE
According to Rangers team spokesman John Rosasco, Mark Messier "has not decided what his plans are regarding the upcoming season and has not said when he will announce his decision, or where, or how." With training camp opening Monday, one would expect Messier, 44, to announce this week whether he intends to report. He is a free agent, so he could sign with any team in the NHL. The Edmonton Oilers have expressed interest in signing him for his final NHL season.

Messier has had a great career. I support him getting these 12 games or what he needs to break Howe's record. I actually would not mind him as our second line center for those. With minimum salary and after that giving place in roster to Getzlaf... hmm.gif

I too wouldn't mind him on the Ducks, but him being our 2nd liner? blink.gif No way either 3rd or 4th, he's no longer that productive!

Adding to DIG's MacInnis retirement posting:
QUOTE
St. Louis Blues defenceman Al MacInnis announced his retirement from the NHL on Friday after a 23-year career.

The hockey club said MacInnis will remain in the organization in a hockey operations and marketing capacity. "Like that of all players, Al's career has unfortunately and finally come to an end," Blues general manager Larry Pleau said in a statement. "However, it gives us great satisfaction to know that his unparalleled expertise and experience will continue to benefit the Blues as he accepts a new position on our staff."

<link>

At least he will be staying in the Blues organization.

Another one bites the dust ...
QUOTE
Los Angeles Kings right wing Trent Klatt has informed the club of his intentions to retire from the National Hockey League, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today.

"We would like to thank Trent for his contributions to our club during the 2003-04 season," said Taylor. "We respect his decision and the Kings organization wishes him and his family the best in the future."

Said Klatt: "My children have been in three schools the past three years and I did not feel it was fair to them to continue this trend. My family needs stability. I want to thank all of the organizations for which I have played, my coaches, the fans, media, all the friends my family has made along the way, and most importantly, my teammates."
