Ya but there's not a big ass difference about that for example I'm a ducks fan and used to be a Wings fan and I live in montreal and those two teams come here in Montreal every two years so not much of a difference.

From a playoff perspective, the only time you would face the Eastern conference would be in the Stanley Cup Finals. You need to see everyone at least once during the season to make it a level playing field. Otherwise, it's going to get skewed. Do we want to play the Kings 10 times and never see half the NHL? Oh yippee. Kings fans in my building even more.
I want an opportunity to boo the hell out of Brodeur and watch Martin St. Louis score goals, and if Messier hadn't retired, Mallard would start a petition requiring his presence.

30 vs. East (home one year, away the next)
20 vs. Division (two home, two away)
20 vs. West (one home, one away)
You still get to play all the teams in the NHL, but the seasons shorter by 12 games. Personaly I don't want it to happen, I like it the way it is!

Rucchin20, there is an NHLFA. Check out their website.

I don't know how much of an hearing the NHL or NHLPA give them though.

Thanks for link Reb. They would if we were forceful and made our opinions known!

Also, it's quite likely that the NHL will have "special" preseason matches between the East and West to whet our appetites for the other conference teams. The prices for those "special" matchups will be similar, I will guess, to playoff prices!
It's all about the bottom line, and I can't see the owners deliberately cutting down on 10 games worth of revenue without some compensation somewhere else in the season (other than no flying, no staying in hotels).

Whats the point of playing your fucking guts out if you are just going to see them again next week and have to do it all over again?

The new schedule assumes that they will not be getting rid of hockey franchises. That’s good news to me!

-- will season ticket prices be affected
-- will they start the season in late October, or begin in early October but end it in late March?
Ten games down means less revenue for either team. But at least they're not cutting out franchises.

Why is cutting out franchises a bad thing? Don't you think the league overexpanded?
