By affixing your signature here, you clearly express your support on a possible return of Scandinavian and National League of hockey in Quebec, just as with the construction of a new amphitheatre, imperative condition on such a return. Subsequently, the petition will be given to the next mayor, little after his election, that is to say at the beginning of 2006. Use the form below to sign this petition. We ask you to write your complete name. We will have to erase the signatures which will have used one alias (nickname).

This would get a lot more signatures if it was available in English. Mine, for example.

My point is, if they want people to sign it, put it in both languages. We shouldn't need a translation on another site to tell us what we are signing up for. It's as though they only want french speaking hockey fans to support their cause. Fine. I'm not one of those, so good luck to you.

By signing this petition, you clearly express your supporr for an eventual return of the Nordiques to the NHL and to Quebec, and also to the construction of a new arena, an essential condition to their return.

Subsequently, the petition will be sent to the next mayor, upon his/her election, around the beginning of 2006.

Use the form below in order to sign the petition.

We ask that you write your complete name. We will void all submissions that use an alias (nickname).

Businessman aims to revive Nordiques

QUEBEC (CP) -- A little-known local businessman says he wants to bring NHL hockey back to Quebec City.

Mark Charest, who said he works in event promotions, told a news conference Wednesday at the Pepsi Colisee that a committee has been formed to work on landing a franchise.

I'd like to see hockey back in Quebec, but I don't think expansion at this point is what the league needs. Unless of course some team would move (Pittsburgh, Columbus...)

Aren't the owners of the Blues looking to offload the team somewhere? Maybe St. Louis should relocate to Quebec.

No. Can't sign it. It would destroy my master plan.

I want to realign the teams into 5 divisions and that would mean a wild card for the playoffs. Much more exciting:

Here's how it would look:

CANADIAN DIVISION
Vancouver
Calgary
Edmonton
Ottawa
Monteal
Toronto

WILD WEST DIVISION
San Jose
LA
Anaheim
Phoenix
Denver
Dallas

HEARTLAND DIVISION
Chicago
St. Louis
Minnesota
Columbus
Pittsburg
Philadelphia

NEW ENGLAND DIVISION
Detroit
Boston
Buffalo
NJ
NY Rangers
NY Islanders

DIXIE DIVISION
Washington
Nashville
Atlanta
Carolina
Florida
Tampa Bay

You would then have 5 divisional winners and the playoffs need 6 teams to match up -- so you would have the wild card spot for the best overall team after the 5 divisonal teams.

I love this idea. I think it has merit. Plus it has some bonus factors -- like Canada would be in a division all by themselves so we wouldn't have to hear about how the US has robbed them of their national pasttime.

Plus if the wild card thing becomes boring, the NHL could always expand by another 6 teams to form another Division -- more hockey for everyone!

Anyone else with me -- let's take it to the NHL!! biggrin.gif

Because I couldn't split up the Pennsylvania teams and I want Detroit to have to play New Jersey for eternity!!!!

We could just expand to 6 more teams and have a special division as follows:

NOSTALGIA DIVISION
Nordiques -- put them in Quebec
Whalers -- put them in Hartford
Jets - put them in Winnipeg
Northstars - put them in Minneapolis
Rockies -- put them back in Denver
Mighty Ducks -- put them in Orlando biggrin.gif

Aww, that was for all those Ducks fans who grew up loving the Mighty Ones as related to Disney, and what a better spot to have them re-emerge than in Disney East territory?! biggrin.gif

I SUPPOSE you could plant a team in Orlando as long as it isn't the ANAHEIM Ducks. dry.gif

It's the NOSTALGIA Division --- Does no one get that that means teams that no longer exist?????!! The title of this thread is bring back the Nordiques. I really hate to explain my jokes. blink.gif

I would much rather go with the wild card for the 6th spot.

QMU scoresssssss! Thanks DK, I thought for a moment that everyone but me was becoming way to sensitive on this board!

So, what do you really think of my master plan for realigning the divisions? I want to add that the Heartland Divison would be a real snore to watch. biggrin.gif

I like the idea - it definitely has merit. Putting Detroit in the East is a fantastic idea biggrin.gif. NJ-Detroit match-ups all the time - now that would be interesting. It would also put the Dead Wings in their place, if you ask me. laugh.gif

If I had my way, Detroit and NJ would be relegated to Mars to battle for supremacy. biggrin.gif And it would give the media some other more deserving team to get them slobbering (no offense Barry.....wait, no -- you do offend me Barry -- you go to Mars also and slobber all over Detroit some more)! tomatomelrose.gif tomatomelrose.gif
