NEW YORK (AP) -- St. Louis Blues forward Dallas Drake was suspended for two games by the NHL on Saturday, a day after an illegal check against Anaheim's Corey Perry.

Drake was suspended for Saturday night's game at Los Angeles and for the Blues' home contest on Wednesday versus Chicago. The left winger will lose $12,408.16 in salary and will be eligible to return next Friday when the Blues face Edmonton in St. Louis.

The hit on Perry occurred 3:54 into the second period of St. Louis' 6-4 loss to Anaheim. Drake didn't receive a penalty, but Perry was left with a concussion that forced the Mighty Ducks to place him on the injured list Saturday.

When a hit like that which was illegal occurs, I would love to see the suspension be equal to the recovery time for the victim. There are unintended injuries in the course of play but injuries caused by out and out right illegal moves should have more accountability. I have seen injuries that are caused by clean, good, fair hits. I have no problem with that. It's the dirty play that needs to be penalized beyond two games.

In this case Drake is out for a couple of days and slightly poorer. Perry has a concussion to recover from and it won't just be a couple of days. For the most part, there is not a deliberate intent to injure, but when you commit an illegal play, you have already drastically increased the odds of some harm coming to your intended target.

The hit actually was borderline interference, since Perry never had the puck, it was fine until he extended his arms like he was punching someone, only with both arms. He folded his elbows, kinda like crossing your arms, then when he hit Perry, he extended his arms straight, and his gloves ended up driving Perry's head to the ice, and he hit the ice pretty hard.
