Hockey Night in Canada may be losing its most recognizable face after this season.

The Globe and Mail reports that the relationship between the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Coach's Corner host Don Cherry is so strained that they are preparing to sever it at the end of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

i will never want to watch another CBC broadcast if Don Cherry is booted off of it ... he makes those telecasts what they are ... and who cares if what he says is bologna ... i applaud him and his determination to be the only man in the world to wear suits like he does

Cherry's a retard. He'll find work somewhere in Canada for sure though.

A silent sock puppet could replace Melrose and I'd be happy.

Yep, but that "retard" is a millionare, which is more than most of us smart folks can say.

The main reason for his popularity is that he speaks his mind, Canadians on TV for the most part are so boring and try so hard to avoid controversial comments that they make Don Cherry stand out amongst them. His bluntness is the reason thousands bother to turn on HNIC - the viewing audience actually drops after the first intermission he is that popular!

CBC has one successful show - thats Hockey Night In Canada - what a surprise that political correctness will soon make even that show a failure!

I can't stand most of his comments, but love his attitude and it will be a shame when he's gone and replaced a bland joker who won't offend anyone.....

I agree. I used to watch HNIC all the time when I lived up there. I don't particularly care for him or agree with what he says but it is entertaining. The show wouldn't be the same without him. sad.gif

I'm a huge Don Cherry fan -- I got to meet him at the Stanley Cup Finals last year, and that was truly one of the highlights of my life! I'm also a huge Ron Maclean fan, and I met him that night too -- a night I will never forget!!

I saw this coming -- there's been a witch hunt after Cherry ever since his controversial comments last year regarding Canadian backing of the U.S. in Iraq. Grapes has made a couple of comments that indicated he might be retiring late in the regular season, and I've been cherishing every moment we get to watch Don and Ron ever since.

If Cherry leaves, then it's a truly sad day for hockey. And with safety netting, two refs, ridiculous officiating mandates, a looming strike, the pending retirement of several players following this season... hockey can't take too many more sad days before the game fades away and dies. Or at least, the NHL does.

I agree, the passion that Cherry shows is difficult to find anywhere and thats a huge part of his appeal.

Sure, passion. Money. Too bad he's a retard. Why can't a smart passionate person speak his or her mind on CBC? Why does it have to be that dumbass? Is Canada that freakin bland?

Some of you may wish Cherry gone. But you'll also wish you could have him back when they end up trying to find someone to be Mr. Un Correct. You can't just play some things. You don't like opinions GOOD. Thats what it's all about. You get A yes man your gonna be Bitchin' then.

:tu: Your right, the Canadian media is full of bland, yes men. That is the main reason Don Cherry caught our attention - he said what was on his mind and wasn't worrying about who he offended.

His replacement is bound to be someone as politically correct as the CBC can find.

Ratings will drop, but since tax dollars keep CBC TV afloat they don't really give a damn.

Maybe they can get Triumph the dog to take over. I'd pay hard earned US Caish to get THAT my TV once a week..
