Sad news sad.gif Family is the most important thing in the world and hockey just pales into insignificance when your loved ones are hurting.

Best wishes to the Gretzky family.

Unfortunately Mrs. Gretzky, with Wayne and family by her side, passed away tonight. My condolences to the Gretzky family and to the hockey family.

QUOTE
"Throughout my career, she was in the background but she was the glue," Wayne Gretzky said at the time of her diagnosis. "She's always been the toughest in the family."

My prayers go out to the Gretzky family. There is nothing like your mom. Tough to lose her right before Christmas. Glad he could be there.

Wow, even though you coached some rivals, I'm sure the Ducks and their fans will be praying for you! Hope to see you behind the 'Yotes bench again!

weeping.gif RIP Mrs. Gretzky. Wayne was saying how she was the glue that held the family together. Just before Christmas....has to be so very hard on everyone.

She was 1 year older than me...ouch! That lung cancer is a tough one.

''I also want to give special thanks to all my friends and the hockey fans in Canada for their support and respect shown toward my mother and for their understanding during these trying times for our family,'' Gretzky said.
...
Lowe said everyone but Gretzky considered postponing the naming of the team.

''He never ceases to amaze me,'' Lowe told TSN. ''His commitment to the country, to hockey and to family and to be able to juggle all that. He was on the conference calls and committed to this. We're lucky to have him, not Hockey Canada, this country is lucky to have someone that is so committed our national sport and so committed to what makes Canadians happy.''
