Discuss EC and WC playoff races in this thread. Discuss upcoming games, scenarios, future projections.

In my opinion, five teams have been eliminated from the playoffs, although not mathematically, these teams have little or no hope to make it. They are in the EC: Washington and Pittsburgh (Florida, Boston and NYI on the bubble).

In the WC: Chicago, Columbus and St. Louis. The rest is too tight to call.

Your thoughts?

Same reaction/hypothesis DK.

Tampa Bay, Montreal, and New Jersey are clearly still in it. From my standpoint of view if and only if, that if the Bruins lose tomorrow I think officialy they'll be out of the race.

Edmonton's next 5 games could be crucial in their playoff run or if the Ducks can catch them... unfortunately they play the Pacific.

Edmonton will play at SJ, at Phoenix, host Calgary, at Anaheim, and at LA. This schedule could favor the Ducks if they can get some points and make up the deficit.

I'm most concerned with the end of our schedule - 5 games on the road, then the final one at home. With our road record, I don't want to have a season that could go either way to be decided with road games. Makes me very nervous.

For some perspective, I've copied the current standings for the East:

Eastern Team GR PTS

1. Carolina 28 80 <----- look who's in 1st overall ohmy.gif
2. Ottawa 30 75
3. NY Rangers 27 72
4. Buffalo 30 71
4. Philadelphia 27 71
6. Tampa Bay 28 62
6. New Jersey 27 62
8. Toronto 28 57

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. Montreal 29 56
10. Boston 27 55
11. Atlanta 27 54
12. NY Islanders 29 51
13. Florida 27 50
14. Washington 29 43
15. Pittsburgh 27 35

I won't do the West because it's already being done in other threads. . .but feel free to discuss playoff scenarios.

I know it is way too early to call, but with San Jose 9 points out now...their playoff chances are really fading. hmm.gif

Why not? Just because they are doing okay at the moment doesnt mean they cannot be in the playoffs. Huet's been doing a good job lately...

Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun looked at all 30 teams to determine who'd be buyers and sellers. Here it is through Spector's Hockey. Judge for yourselves.

I think it's save to say Phoenix is eliminated from the playoffs. There 12th in the conference they only have 58 points and they played 59 games, tied second most in the West.

I say Vancouver falls out of Playoff contention after there D is hurt during the olympics and that will hurt for the stretch drive.

That has to suck. Salo, Jovo, Baumgartner, and Ohlund are ALL out. butbut.gif

The Kings may fall even more as well with injuries to Norstrom, Frolov, and Demitra.

Eliminated from the playoffs, in my opinion:

In the EC: Washington, Pittsburgh, Florida and NYI (Toronto's on the bubble).

In the WC: Chicago, Columbus, St. Louis and Phoenix are toast. The rest is too tight to call.

With Minnesota being 10 points out and having played several more games than everyone else, I think they are gone.

I was playing NHL 06 today, played the Wild, and I got shutout 1-0. The point is, Roloson was in net. If Minnesota has Roloson starting, the'll still have a shot at the playoffs.
