Late Breaking Updates and Notes for Wednesday, January 18

Canucks forward Matt Cooke sprained his left ankle in a collision with Jarku Ruutu in practice today. He is getting x-rays and will not play tomorrow. - TSN

Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov shoulder's injury that he suffered on Monday is a torn rotator cuff. He will miss a minimum of three-weeks. - TSN

Flyers C Peter Forsberg left Tuesday night's game against Carolina after two periods due to a groin injury, but he doesn't think the injury is serious. "It shouldn't be that bad," said Forsberg. "I don't think it's a tear or anything like that. When you tear it, it's usually higher up. This one is kind of down and I'm hopeful that it shouldn't be that long." - Philadelphia Daily News

Canadiens RW Richard Zednik, who has a bruised thumb, skated with LW Tomas Plekanec, who is recovering from a knee injury. Both players will be on the charter flight this morning as the Canadiens prepare to open a six-game road trip Thursday night in Calgary. - Montreal Gazette

Senators C Jason Spezza skated as an extra forward at Sens practice today and is questionable for Thursday night's game against the Ducks. He's missed 12 of the last 13 games so far.

Blackhawks G Nikolai Khabibulin took shots during Tuesday morning's skate and is close to returning from his groin injury suffered Dec. 28 against St. Louis. - Chicago Tribune

Red Wings RW Henrik Zetterberg did not skate because of what Babcock described as a "bump" in the right hip, incurred during Monday's practice. As for Zetterberg's availability tonight, coach Mike Babcock said he didn't think the injury "is any big deal, but we're not fooling around." - Detroit Free Press

Panthers rookie Rostislav Olesz worked about half the hourlong practice but coach Jacques Martin ruled him out for Thursday's game with a shoulder injury. He is day-to-day. - Palm Beach Post

Kings G Mathieu Garon, who has started 27 of the last 32 games, did not return for the second period Tuesday night after suffering a shoulder injury. Although X-rays were negative, Garon will undergo an MRI exam today and seems iffy for Thursday's game against Atlanta. - Los Angeles Times

Wild LW Pascal Dupuis said Tuesday his separated shoulder should keep him out no more than two weeks. - St. Paul Pioneer Press

Predators C David Legwand, who's missed the last 19 games with a knee injury, is expected to resume skating this week. He'll need two to three weeks after that to return to the lineup. - The Tennessean

Left wing Mike Leclerc, who has missed the past 15 games because of a leg injury, is expected to practice with teammates today for the first time since undergoing surgery on Dec. 20. Leclerc, who had bone spurs shaved from his left tibia, said if all goes well, he should be able to play before next month's Olympic break. - Arizone Republic
