The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Penguins owner Mario Lemieux and his partners have been approached by "a few groups" interested in purchasing the franchise - and plan to begin negotiating with them.

Lemieux told the paper Wednesday that he and his partners would be opening negotiations for the sale of the team.

"We're just starting the process," Lemieux told the Gazette. "We don't have a deal. We're just starting the process."

The Penguins' gambling partner said it will keep working toward a new arena and casino in the Lower Hill District no matter who owns the team.

Isle of Capri Casinos, based in Biloxi, Miss., has invested a "few million dollars" in a proposal that would use slot machine proceeds to build an arena to keep the hockey team in Pittsburgh, company President Tim Hinkley said. If it wins the license, the company would give the Penguins $290 million for a new arena.
