Manny Fernandez is now 'officially' the Minnesota Wild's No. 1 netminder, as the team has traded goaltender Dwayne Roloson to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a first round pick and a conditional draft pick.

I'm not so sure that Dwayne Roloson is the answer for the Oilers. They didn't give up much in the short term, and we'll have to see who the Wild take with that 1st round pick and how that player develops before we know how much Edmonton gave up in the long term, but this is an interesting move. I like it for the Wild as they got a #1 pick for a back-up goalie that was going to be an UFA in six weeks, but for the Oilers I don't like it. Roloson is average at best and has no track record of playoff success to make you think he would be able to help them if they make the playoffs. I think CuJo would have been a better choice for them, but obviously the price for Joseph was too high and they preferred this deal.

Since the Ducks are chasing Edmonton in the playoff race I hope this backfires on them in a big way!

LOL his record is 6-17-1. I think 1st round pick was a little much.

I don't think this trade was the answer to the Oiler's goaltending issues and only gives them another question mark in net. Will Rolo turn around a lousy season with a change of scenery? Or are his best days behind him? And a first round pick for a 36 year old rental player? IMO Edmonton got hosed. Which is fine with me.

He has played back-up to Fernandez all year. If he plays anywhere near as well as he did before the lockout, Edmonton has significantly improved their goaltending.

Wow, now the Oil have 4 goalies. Roloson is allrite but he hasn't been in his best form lately. I don't see it as a big pick up and like ahti said i tinhk the oil were robbed.

Here's Edmonton's goalies:

Ty Conklin
Jussi Markannen
Michael Morrison
Dwayne Roloson

I'd like the Oil to give up at least Conklin, and Markannen hmm.gif

With Edmonton getting a preety decent upgrade from what they have. Burke must notice that the Oilers have the 8th seed, and with them getting this type of goaltending by the deadline, we have to make some type of deal to swing in and try to take the 8th spot. Because with what we have now will not cut it, not only making the playoffs. But progessing in it as well. Burke is a smart guy and im sure he is thinking the same exact thing i am right now. Expect something tommarow guys.

We should have traded for Roloson! He is better then Hurme. Maybe Carney, Hurme, and a fourth round pick for him?

WISDUCK have you at least looked at Roloson's stats? No way in hell Burke would ever do that it's a complete waste IMHO. Carney is better than Roloson and so should Hurme, but I wouldn't mind trading a pick for Roloson if he were a average goalie hmm.gif

Fanatic, he's the only goalie to ever shut me out in NHL 06 history! And I played 4 years. That and I created the Milwaukee Bulldogs, and featured the best players in the NHL.

Umm WISDUCK were talking about the real-world not some video-game that he shut you out a couple of times. I hope that you were joking for trading Hurme, Carney, and a 4th rounder for Roloson, because it 'ain't right all! I hope it isn't...

Trust me nobody would EVER do that kind of trade! At least I hope not rolleyes.gif
