Jiri Slegr, who has played just 32 games for Boston this season, is scheduled to undergo surgery today on a ruptured disk. "That's the way it is, I'm out for the season," said Slegr. Boston Globe
Kings forward Pavol Demitra moved a bit closer to returning to the lineup, as the blood behind his right eye has dissipated, but he will have to wait until a follow-up examination today before he will be cleared to play. LA Times
Wild RW Marian Gaborik did not practice Thursday because of illness. He will be re-evaluated today. Pioneer Press
Nashville's Kimo Timonen, who missed last night's game with a bruised hand, is hopeful of returning tomorrow, as is Scottie Upshall, out a second straight contest with a bruised hip. Scott Walker had his wrist reexamined on Wednesday. It looks like he's out 10 more days. The Nashville Tennessean
Devils defenceman Richard Matvichuk has already missed three games due to a bad back and underwent an MRI on Wednesday, which proved inconclusive. His return date in unknown. Wednesday’s venture during the Pittsburgh Penguins visit was quite different—the pigeon wanted to play! Oh yeah, and breakout by our #8 Alexander “The Great” Ovechkin. Needless to say, two wins in the bag for the Caps and ownership agrees— the pigeon stays!
