Late Breaking Updates and Notes for Tuesday, April 4
Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk suffered a lower body injury late in last night's 2-1 shootout victory over Calgary. Datsyuk is expected to be out of the lineup a minimum of 7-10 days and will be re-evaluated at that time.
The Ottawa Senators say Tyler Arnason suffered a "possible mild concussion" when he was hit by Atlanta's Garnet Exelby in Monday night's game. He will travel with the team to Buffalo and will likely be a game time decision... Forward Mike Fisher has missed the last nine games with an ankle injury and will be a game time decision as well... Daniel Alfredsson, who missed Monday's game with the flu, is expected to play in Buffalo.
King defenseman Aaron Miller, who has missed three games with a back injury, underwent a series of cortisone shots Friday and said he hoped to return to the lineup this week.
Jeff Friesen returned to the Ducks lineup Sunday after being a healthy scratch for two games. L.A. Times
Brian Leetch and right wing Glen Murray practiced with the Bruins in Montreal on Monday, and they expect to be back in the lineup Tuesday night after missing Saturday's game. Leetch sat out because he was struck in the head by the stick of Sabres forward Daniel Briere last Wednesday, and Murray was sidelined because of his third bout with the flu. Leetch skated for the second straight day and said he is symptom-free after having a headache and nausea. Boston Globe
If money talks, then Eric Staal is the winner when it comes to popularity. The practice jersey he wore on Ron Francis Night, Jan. 28, fetched the highest price at auction of any of his peers - $1,621. Rod Brind'Amour's jersey was not available in the online auction that ended Sunday and raised more than $23,000 for the Canes' charitable foundation. News and Observer
The timetables for the return of injured Avalanche players Alex Tanguay and Jose Theodore remain murky. Avs coach Joel Quenneville would not give a specific return date for either player Monday, saying it is too soon to know for sure. Tanguay, Colorado's leading scorer before spraining his right knee March 19 in San Jose, has yet to practice with the team. Theodore, out since Jan. 31 with a broken bone in his right heel, is skating with the team but has yet to participate in a full contact practice. The Avs hope to give the former Montreal Canadiens goalie a start or two before the end of the regular season, April 17. If he plays a regular-season game, his full $5.3 million salary cap average will immediately count against the Avs' payroll. - Denver Post
Stars winger Bill Guerin (fractured orbital bone) is skating hard and hopes to be cleared for play Wednesday, when he visits the doctor. He has lost 10 pounds during the break and says he feels quicker. - Dallas Morning News
Injured Panthers forward Jozef Stumpel, sidelined last week by a hip flexor, will not play this week and could miss the rest of the regular season. Stumpel, who was playing on the top line alongside Olli Jokinen and Gary Roberts, said he "heard a pop" while skating in last Wednesday's game at Pittsburgh. Palm Beach Post
Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers rookie goaltending sensation, reported soreness after practice Monday that the Rangers are calling a "minor hip flexor strain." He is listed as day to day. Kevin Weekes will start Tuesday. It is likely that Lundqvist also will sit out Thursday night's game against the Islanders. - New York Daily News
Defenseman Darius Kasparaitis, who has missed five of the Rangers' last six games with a strained groin, did not skate. He said he definitely will miss the next two games, and possibly the weekend games against Boston and the Devils. - Rockland Journal News
Five rookie goalies are going to end up with 20-plus victories this season. Henrik Lundqvist, a possible Calder Trophy finalist, leads the way with 30 victories through Sunday, followed by Buffalo's Ryan Miller (26), Philadelphia's Antero Niittymaki (22) and Ottawa's Ray Emery (21), who has been the starter since the Olympic break with Dominik Hasek injured. Atlanta's Kari Lehtonen, who had 19 victories through Sunday, is the only one likely to miss the playoffs. - Detroit News
