For a long time it was all Crosby thing, but some guys have clearly outplayed him. Gretzky has been speaking dividing the honours... crazy.gif

Ovechkin should get it, with Lundqvist in a close second, but more than likely Crosby will win it gun_thug.gif

The Calder Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League. The winner is selected in a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season.

While Lundqvist has been very very good and has a gold medal around his neck, too, it is Ovechkin who has caught my attention the most. Love him or hate him, he is producing and capable.

ana-ban.gif This time I had to go with Ovechkin. He has some real potential to become the next hockey "super star". So do some of the other players in the list so it was a hard choice......maybe I should have just said "ALL"????

I think Lundquist should get it. He is more important to his team i think. Ovechkin is a great individual player and on a better team would be incredible. All the new rules mean that someone like Ovechkin can come in and score more goals than years past, but the new rules are making it harder on goalies, not the other way round. And with the way Lundquist is playing i think he should be awarded with this trophy. He has 30 wins under his belt and while Ovechkin is incredible i don't think he has had this type of impact on his team. Teams can win with injuries to a key forward or defenseman no matter how good they are, take away the centerpiece of an organisation like a goaltender and they will have trouble. Granted Ovechkin does have the star power to affect a game in such a way, but i don't think to the extent a goaltender like Lundquist has had.
