If there is such a thing as a good-luck charm for cancer patients, Michael Savage has it.
The 42-year-old older brother of Flyers forward Brian Savage is lying in bed in Room 1111 of Montreal General Hospital.
It may be the most famous room in the cancer ward, since it was where the Canadiens' captain, Saku Koivu, recovered from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosed almost five years ago.
Michael Savage is recovering from surgery to remove a tumor on his esophagus and heart. His chemotherapy is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
"It is very ironic that my brother is in the same room as Saku," Savage said. "Saku's foundation donated the CT scan which Mike used for one of his tests. Saku has been to see him a few times."
