Late Breaking Updates and Notes for Saturday, April 8

Ed Jovanovski practiced with his teammates on Thursday for the first time since undergoing abdominal surgery on February 1. Jovanovski isn't ruling out playing on Saturday. - Vancouver Sun

Hurricanes defenceman David Tanabe will undergo surgery next week to repair a torn ACL. He suffered the injury on Tuesday and an MRI performed on Wednesday revealed the tear. He is done for the season, but should be able to return to full strength for the start of training camp next season. - Boston Herald

Thrashers rookie goaltender Kari Lehtonen will miss the next two games with a sprained ankle. He suffered the injury in a collision with Chris Dingman in Thursday's game against the Lightning. - Atlanta Journal-Constitution

As expected, Cristobal Huet will get the start in net when the Canadiens host the Devils. Martin Brodeur will start in his hometown for New Jersey.

Bruins goalie Hannu Toivonen (ankle) may get his wish and be able to play in one of the final four games of the season. - Boston Herald

New York's Kevin Weekes will start Saturday against the Boston Bruins and could also get the nod Sunday night at the Meadowlands against the Devils as the Rangers tread lightly with mending rookie No. 1 goalie Henrik Lundqvist. - New York Daily News

The Chicago Blackhawks hope forward Tuomo Ruutu will return to the lineup next Tuesday after missing 34 games because of severed tendons in his right ankle.

David started with the Canes and was there for a long time, I still think of him as a Cane myself...
