I just posted this in another thread while replying to someone else's comments about Pittsburgh. Thought maybe I should copy and paste it here for anyone that is interested in the Penguins.
QUOTE
Pittsburgh is the team I kept my eye on all of last year. I was able to watch their games on NHL Center Ice before I left to go to Ducks home games or before Ducks road games came on TV that night.
I knew they wouldn't do well but Sidney is a playmaker, Colby Armstrong is talented and funny (they had him mic'd one game), and I am hoping Marc-Andre Fleury will eventually develop into the star goalie he was expected to be.
With the addition of Evgeni Malkin hopefully this year, they should be fun to watch.

I know Crosby is only in the sophmore class of players, but he DESERVES more than 850,000. That may not be possible but that's what he deserves.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't give a player more than a certain number when you're handing him an entry level contract. Trust me, his contract will be huge in a couple years.
Malkin will be fun to watch... he was like a man among the boys at the junior championship.

Penguins are now Crosby's teamAs I predicted a year ago, Crosby will most likely be handed the C for the Penguins
QUOTE
General manager Ray Shero and coach Michel Therrien must decide whether 19-year-old Sidney Crosby - the team's best player and the face of the franchise - should wear the "C" as the team captain at the Oct. 5 opener against Philadelphia.
Other possible choices include forwards Mark Recchi and John LeClair. But they are not the big scorers they once were, and both have spent most of their careers with other teams.

Personally I think its stupid handing Crosby the C. If you were Leclair and Recchi would you listen to a 19 year old? Also Crosby whines too much.

Aug 23 2006, 10:44 AM
I like Sid as player, but not as a person who got the C. I don't know what it is, probably his cockiness but I just don't like the guy. Now you give him the C when there are other players there that have been there longer and have more experience, and know how to lead. Like jojo983 stated., why would they listen to a kid. He might have had a great year, but that isn't a reason to hand him that responsibility. He is still very young and needs a little maturing to do. But don't get against me now. The kid has great talent but I don't know about this. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
All this is my opinion.

The kid is classy in my opinion... always has a diplomatic answer. How he is in the dressing room, no one knows 'cept for the Pens. I've also heard he whines a lot, but also that whenever he speaks, he is respected and everyone listens.

When presented with the opportunity to serve as a guest instructor at the hockey school, Crosby couldn’t pass it up. He flew to Pittsburgh at his own expense because he knows how much of an impact the experience is for youngsters.
“It’s fun. I can remember being 6 or 7 and Brad Richards taught me at a hockey school and now I am playing against him,” he said. “It’s kind of funny how things work like that. You always remember those times in your life when you meet people like that. To be able to do it here is nice.”
