Under terms of the agreement, Kaigorodov, 23, will be allowed to attend the Senators camp, which opens Sept. 14th at Scotiabank Place.

If Kaigorodov makes the Senators, he will sign a rookie deal worth $1.1 million (all figures US). Should he not make the club, Kaigorodov would be expected to play this season in Russia.

According to the Toronto Sun, the Ottawa Senators have fired general manager John Muckler.

Muckler wouldn't discuss the issue with the paper, directing all inquiries to Senators owner Eugene Melnyk.

Senators make Paddock sixth coach in franchise history

John Paddock won't have to move far when he takes over as coach of the Ottawa Senators.

Paddock was promoted to the job of head coach Friday after two seasons as the Senators' assistant coach, taking over a team that made it to the Stanley Cup finals this spring.

Murray says he’ll miss coaching but he thinks he can play a big part in the future success of the club as general manager.

Murray plans to hire a new head coach to fill the position he’s leaving. He’ll meet with several top candidates over the next couple of weeks and hopes to have a new head coach in place soon. Murray will recommend that both assistant coaches – Greg Carvel and John Paddock – be kept on board and also plans to hire an assistant GM.

A: There were nine days off between the last game of the Eastern Conference finals and the start of the Cup finals. We kind of lost a bit of our rhythm and it snowballed. I don't think we ever felt comfortable in that series. Obviously, Anaheim has a tremendous team and they played us so well. They didn't give us a whole lot.

Q: I read your father is a season-ticket holder with the Anaheim Ducks. So what was that like for you during the finals?

A: Well, he grew up in Canada and he's a huge hockey fan. My dad, stepmom and two brothers live in Newport, Calif., so they want to see some hockey, so they have tickets. It actually made things easier for me. They had a box for each game, so it saved me some money, getting friends to the games.
